Re: WRT GR's
Does anyone else plan their trips around likely places to sleep? I've got a rough plan for day 1 but that's where my local knowledge dries up.

Re: WRT GR's
I've only got day 1 roughly mapped out but there's a pub in llandgadfan, a cafe on the near side of lake vyrnwy that opens at 10am and a corner shop in Abertridwr.

Re: Wildlife
I saw some goats gambolling on the other side of cheddar gorge - 2 adults and 3 kids constantly bleating to each other as they climbed the cliff. I took a picture but my phone doesn’t seem to as good as my eyes so I can’t even make them out. On the drive back I saw a buzzard just sitting on top of a...

Re: Hammock in the garden
We got one of the Amazon hammocks for the back garden a couple of years back now. I’ve spent many an hour in it with a book, often with a kid for company. I think if I was going to spend a night in it though I’d invest in a underquilt

Re: Today's Run
Went out with CCTR (and paramart) last night for 9.3 muddy km around the chase, I spent most of the time at the back and my ankles are a bit sore this morning but it was fun, I just need to get fitter.

Religious texts would a lot shorter if people on this forum wrote them.

Re: Today's Run
The Easter break with the kids has made it more difficult to get out - I did manage one 11k run, the first time over an hour in a while, a couple of shorter runs and I also managed to drag my youngest out in an attempt to get him to pace himself - we managed to do 5 sets of 1 min walking, 1 minute r...

Shaf, Aeroe is the brand name, nowhere near as sleek looking as a tailfin but so much cheaper. https://aeroe.com/products/spider-rear-rackredefined_cycles wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 3:12 pm What's an aero rear rack Phil. Do you mean Tailfin??

Re: packable fleece?
I got a Rab half-zip gridded fleece in a SP sale a few years ago now, light but a little bulky - I've taken it touring once instead of a down jacket when the forecast was for continuous rain and it did the job. If I was going to get a new one I'd get one with a hood though.

I use my bikepacking luggage when I go credit card touring - it's a wonder how many changes of clothes can fit in the same space as your sleeping and cooking gear.

It'll be interesting to compare and contrast with a lunar solo, especially since I finally pulled the trigger on getting one about 3 hours before the alpkit announcement

I’ve not needed to wear leggings yet since the restart, being a low lander does have some benefits. My last run was just in a short sleeved top and shorts in a balmy 10 degrees

Komoot can’t seem to tell the difference between a bridleway and a footpath. Easy to use though.

Komoot loves to stick you on footpaths too - it doesn’t seem to distinguish that well between the different rights of way.

Re: Todays ride
A slow steady 3 hour shake down ride to test my new shoes mostly on bridleways and canals including a fun swooping section of the local trails. It was the first ride of any length since December so it was very apparent that my climbing legs, which were never the best, have completely gone. Something...

21.2km for the week, getting back into the swing of things. As the distance goes up there’s more potential for off-road jaunts so looking forward to that.

My best crash was being taken out by a deer in California on the way to work 20 years ago or so. I was pootling along the road enjoying the sunshine, just entering the outskirts of one of the little towns on my route when I heard the skitter skitter of hooves on pavement and a large antlered deer sh...

Re: Today's Run
I had to do back to back runs this week since the weekend will be hectic which went surprisingly ok. I managed 18.4km for the week which was more than I’d intended but I got carried away in the sun yesterday. Target is 20-21km next week.

Finally managed to get out 3 times last week for 15.4 very flat km. No major twinges or aches so the plan is to start gradually increasing the distance - the aim for this week is 16-18km.

Re: Today's Run
Only managed a whopping 7.8km last week due to not being able to get out at the weekend so going to try Monday-Wednesday-Friday this week. The good news is that after todays 5k my legs don’t feel like they’ve been pummelled by a bag full of apples unlike every other run in the last 3 weeks
