Re: Fanny pack?

Went for the Decathlon one in the end. Arrived today and looks like it will be OK. The side pockets might be a little shallow to hold a bottle properly which could be a problem but there are some elastic loops which may help hold things in. Will update after a ride.

Sounds great but have plans already made for that week. Love the idea though so would definitely like to do it next year.

I've got one of these, works, is good value. Have no room for a frame bag so recon I need about 5 litres + a bit for water. Can fit o...

Re: Fanny pack?

Is the ortlieb the hip pack 2? Looks nice but too spendy for an experiment. TLS is all very well but I am still working on that but need some carrying capability. This will be my third bikepacking trip and am definitely whittling down the stuff but a lot of what I have is still quite bulky. Not read...

Re: Fanny pack?

Anyone used the Decathlon one? Don't think that it is waterproof and possibly a bit big but has the virtue of cheapness.

Good work Reg - much obliged! I will be able to (not) sleep (un) comfortably in my bivy now I know that there is the (un) certainty of a nice tea in the morning. As for "just get 'em brought", well, ahem.... * *not moaning. I know Stu's thoughts on the virtues of patience. I'm going to be ...

Re: Tomshoo Titanium??

Am going to order one of Stu's stoves but dithering over which! Does the hyperstove boil around 500ml in one of the myti 650s in a single burn or does it need a refill? Reg's write up says the water got hot but is it hot enough for a nice tea? This is of utmost importance! If not, I could get one of...

I had a 2016 cdf with 40mm nanos no bother (I didn't have a front mech, not sure that would matter)...bit of a tank mind I also have the 2016 but do have a front mech. Also, don't know for sure but surely that land-rover phone is going to be some Chinese phone with a fancy(?) case and an (android?) skin by a company whose primary business isn't phones. Or maybe I'm just cynical.

Re: Lightweight mat to replace Thermarest Ultralite

I got the insulated version of the KLYMIT V Ultralite for the winter event. Seemed to do the job ok. Got it from massdrop and got stung for tax and handling fee etc but still worked out about £60. Took a little while to arrive but not too long.

Do you still find you need to use a bivvy bag with a shaped tarp like this? No, not really. They provide full coverage and will keep all the weather out. I tend to use a very light bivvy bag inside / under but you'd quite easily get away with just something to lie on. Same here. I've not yet used t...

Re: Cumulus quilt conundrum

Have been thinking about a quilt for summer use but realistically will only use a couple of times a year. £170 for the 250 is pretty steep in my book compared to the Alpkit Cloud Cover at £90. It's a higher fill power and slightly lighter but is it really £80 better?
