Re: The post man's been ...

A couple of weeks back....some lovely Bearbones carbon poles, which thanks to Stu's advice will work with both the Trailstar and the small DD tarp. One 6 section pole with 2 bottom sections for inside the trailstar, with an additional top section for use with the flat tarp. One 3 section 1m pole. Ha...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

Late post (again). March bivvy done on 22nd/23rd March so 3/3. Some good photographs above so I thought I'd stick in a few to show you the flatness of the Puszta, and just what the local riding is like for me at the moment  The ferry across the river Koros is off at the moment so a sneaky cross...

Re: Shimano MTB drive train on a drop bar gravel bike

My Kona Sutra, more of a tourer but also makes for a pretty good (if a wee bit heavy) gravel type adventure bike. It runs Deore 9 speed with a 48 36 26 chainset on bar end shifters. I think you can run 9 speed brifter with 9 speed MTB drivetrain but once you go 10 speed and above the two systems are...

How long did people have to wait for their fake trailstars to show up? Its 30 days since I ordered it - is this typical?
Al,
I ordered mine on the 6th Feb and it turned up on 3rd of March. Does seem to take a bit of time.

Re: What seat pack for small sized hardtail frame?

I have the same problem at 5ft 5and a bit inches. I had to buy blind over the net and the best compromise I found was the Relevate Pika. I have tried it out on two bikes, on my Kona Sutra (700c) I have four inches of seatpost and 19cm (approx) from saddle rail to the top of mudgaurd (38mm tyres). Cl...

Re: Them there Pole a bear poles Stu is flogging..

I was playing around with mine which I just got last Friday. I found the standard pitch, with 120cm centre pole a pretty good all round option. I think 130 cm could be good in more sheltered or calmer conditions, and (as I sometimes kayak in the Med) I could see a very high pitch, sort of maximum ex...

Thanks Stuart, I'll leave it for now and see how I get on. Last summer the tape came off the seams on my old Vango TBS and despite heavy rain it didn't leak. I see what you mean about the setting up tape, next time I have a wee practice I'll see if it makes a difference. Now to order some poles :gri...

AliE Trailstar arrived after about the best part of a month. I've had a play with it in the garden and I am seriously impressed with the quality. Bit Late posting, but February now done giving me 2/2. Decided to head up along the (anti) flood dyke of the River Koros then back down the other side of the river to a couple of likely spots. First one was good but went on to the second at the confluence of the Koros and Hortobagy Berrettyo which g...

Sorry Norway, will be later today before I get home to scales, been away since Wednesday, trying to deal with a renovation. I'll get a weigh in this afternoon, but I'm not sure I'm heading in the right direction

Norway:. I'm away from home at the moment so I'll have to skip this weigh in, but I'm still in for the long haul. Seems a common theme at the moment that people are having a stressful time, same here, some problems with a renovation we are doing, which is 4 hours from where we live and means staying...

Wife and I got a Vango Omega 350 a couple of years ago for a cross Europe trip and then a car tour of the North West Highlands. Thanks Dave, enjoyed that. @ Mike. I've put myself down for it this year and I too have been wondering about what approach to take. Likewise, being new to the ultralight game I am impressed that with the Ti Goat, solo tarp poles etc that you can get a really good versatile shelter going for about 750g at a very reasonable cost.
