You’re a man after my own heart. A bit of good food is worth carrying the extra weight for a few miles :-bd

IMG_0615 4.jpg March 7/8th Bivvy 2024. Cousin Richard was meeting me to test the batteries of his cargo bike for a proposed longer cycling trip. The plan was to ride the Castleman Trail, the old railway line from Ringwood to Upton. But linking from Christchurch at the beginning, and continuing on f...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

After a long posting absence I’m hoping to at least manage one a month, as long as I get out on my monthly quota of bivvies. This was a short loop from Corfe Castle to Old Harry along the Purbeck hills with a hammock camp in the woods. I was joined by my cousin who needed a switch off from home for ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

Bam December17 ( a winter’s tale) It was during the long dark days of winter that a brave warrior took up the challenge to venture into the land of the sleeping giant and steal back the daylight that had been slowly but steadily diminishing. Taking his trusty Whyte iron horse he travelled forth to t...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

Bam Nov17 My first puncture in a year soon after leaving home the tyre had a small spilt, which was oozing fluid but it didn’t go completely down, must have been the cold weather. I decided to nip back and put the spare wheel in. Having missed my train to Moreton I caught on the following one, which...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

October Bivi of the Month October bivi was a continuing theme of leaving everything to the last minute. But I managed to get away on the last day of the month, catching the train to Beaulieu Road Station. I was heading north across the New Forest towards Linwood, along mainly forest tracks through e...

September Bivi of the Month After arriving in Dorchester by train I joined the South Dorset Ridgeway above Maiden Castle. Heading east towards Lulworth Cove, a gentle westerly breeze assisting my progress on a fine autumn day. It was 30k on mainly good tracks and bridleways ,the only slightly diffic...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

3/3 Inspired by recent Bivi A Month post I was keen to head off for March's adventure in dry condition and avoid such adjectives as " misery, soaked, etc. The weather duly came up trumps with blue skies a warm wind and dry tracks. My destination was 30 miles away, which I decided to do after wo...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

It was about 10 degrees warmer for February's bivi than last month, so I decided to try out my Pipe-dream 1/2 sleeping bag, which proved a success albeit with the inclusion of a pair of Buffalo Salopettes. With a 3/4 Therm-a-rest instead of a full length Karrimat my front luggage portage was greatly...

Re: what do you cook...?

Whilst solo backpacking I used to look forward to the meals I’d prepared and dehydrated at home, to eat on the trail. Breakfast was generally home made porridge mix and 3:1 coffee, Lunch trail stacks and nuts. But dinner was a grand affair of multiple courses. Usually beef jerky as an appetiser foll...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

My first bike bivi and my first tick for BAM, think I need to make the ride in a little shorter next time, being a novice bivi biker my ambition exceeded my energy. The extra sticky mud at the end of the day was a real challenge. Still had a great time in an historical location with the imagined sou...
