Re: Cargo Bib Shorts

I’ve got some from the ‘expensive clothing company that shall not be named’ and like them a lot. The pockets are great for gels, bars, bananas (oh err) etc whilst riding. Also stuffing mitts etc into when stopped. They would hold a phone just fine - there’s no bumping around like baggy short pockets...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Yesterday. I drilled out the frame guides on my gravel bike so I could run an uninterrupted length of gear outer cable. There was an annoying clicking sound being generated when I turned the bars more than a few degrees and I think it was confirm the ferule. I hate internal cables. Also cleaned the ...

i could hardly change the gear with the gripshift.
Oh, that’s a shame. Do you have wrist problems?
Do you mean the standard Rohloff shifter for flat bars or something aftermarket?

Re: drop bars set up on my fargo ?

Shouldn’t have sold the Rohloff! I’ve a cracking drop bar Rohloff driven Fargo. But seeing as though you did I’d be looking at SRAM 2x10 lots of used stuff on eBay. My nonRohloff gravel bike runs Rival 2x10 shifters (mechanical), Shimano GRX 2x10 crankset, Rival front mech, SRAM GX rear mech and Air...

Re: XXL Bivi Bags without a taper

Not the lightest option but look at a British or Dutch (and probably many other) military bivi bag. They are generously sized to take into account a squaddie sleeping in his boots cuddling a weapon. I have a Dutch single hoop version from years ago, base is very heavy pu coated nylon. Upper is exce...

Re: Putting ‘mountains’ into mountain biking

That would be going back to 2018 when I last ride Helvellyn and Highstreet in the Lakes. Formerly I considered myself a ‘mountain’biker and sought out the highest bridleways of the north of England. I’m now much more of an all terrain biker. I have always massively valued the ability of a bike and r...

I had to pull the emergency stop once at Lancaster because the train started to pull off without letting me out despite reminding the guard at Preston.

That’s good. Once you get past the pain taking bikes on the train is quite satisfying

Re: Bike in a cardboard box on a train

Which train?
Caledonian Sleeper takes bikes:

https://www.sleeper.scot/travelling-with-bikes/

As do LNER, Avanti West Coast, GWR and (?) all trains in the UK outside of dedicated commuter services. It may be a massive pain in the arse but it’s doable with a complete bike.

Why is everyone so cynical? I think it looks great. Definitely gonna get one in Hymalayan Salt colour way. I can dangle my mug from my seat pack as per usual AND tuck my racing spoon in the elastic on the side on my helmet. What’s not to like :-bd

Re: Anyone any long distance exp of these Selle Italia Gelflow saddles

Profoundly ugly. However it’s also very comfy over distance. To put the width in context, I use narrow saddles like Selle Italia Flite 1990 and SLR usually and had no problems adapting to the ugly behemoth.
Comfortable from the first second.

If you want a padded comfy saddle I’d highly recommend this:

Had a version of this (Ti rails/leather cover) on my bike when I rode in Central Asia. No arse trouble at all over nearly a year of riding.

Both are for traditional135mm QR or nutted axles.

SURLY TUGGNUT: Modified such that the ‘flames’ on the bottom edge (if fitted on drive side) have been removed. Works perfectly well. £15 posted.

SURLY MONKEY NUTS: £10 posted.

Re: Using Garmin Mapshare

I very often change from my pre set plan whilst out for a multitude of reasons. I’ve been used to leaving my wife a route she can refer to if I fail to come home. Traditionally this has been leaving Strava with my route open on my laptop. I could continue to do this but it would be neater to have it...

Thanks Sean. The sharing my position and current track on a map other people can access thing is easy and free (already paid for at least  )
What I want is my social media followers (my wife) to be able to see my intended route as well as where I am on Mapshare page.
Any suggestions?

Using Garmin Mapshare

Having bought an InReach Messenger I’ve been setting it up today. One thing I’d like to do with my Mapshare page is add an intended route onto it prior to heading out on a trip. So when my contacts log in they could see my current position against my intended route. Is this possible? I’m not seeing ...

nifty mounting option that will attach the thing to a rucksack, bike bag or the bike itself. Re: What you done t' your bike today

Feeling very smug having fitted a PNW Coast sus/dropoer post to my Fargo. I’ve modified a SRAM Rival shifter that I picked up on eBay to be the lever. I needed to take out part of the shifter ratchet at the front end and grind down a 5.5mm solder-less cable nipple to fit at the post end. The result ...
