Re: What's your current dream bike?
Having bought and being very much impressed with a stooge dirtbomb, the next thing I'd really like is a matching tandem (29+, similar angles, cruiser style) but I think the custom cost would be silly.

Those look a great idea! I'm generally pretty tight with cash, but may actually splash out on a set...techno wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 9:09 am This any use andy:

I think they are 30mm rise - I'll check and get a photo of them once I'm home from work later.

Big clear out - will increase in size all weekend.
Having just bought another bike (a stooge dirtbomb, as I may have already said once or twice coz it's great...)I need to make some garage space! Firstly: On-one Fatty Trail in blue, size large (20"). Currently has Bluto forks and a boreals 80mm front wheel, but could also have steel fatty forks...

They do use the 'R' word though  Looks a good route and doesn't use the HT route heading north, for a nice change. Also goes close to here so I 'spose I should give it ago at some point. I wish you didn't have to sign up to Komoot or Strava to get the route though and looks like you need a mo...

Re: Simple pretty light cargo cages
Thanks. I'd kind of thought of that, but then decided to try them plain first as I didn't have time to bend and heat treat before someone else needed the workshop! Was also wondering about using plastic acoss the bottom of the half tube for the same purpose. It's definitely in mk2 if needed, along w...

Simple pretty light cargo cages
Had a rare free lesson in the workshop (my engineering group were in an exam) so decided to make some cargo holders for the 3 bolt mounts on my new stooge dirtbomb. Started with a 190mm length of drainpipe, split down its length and then rounded off the corners. Made 2 reinforcement strips from 1.5m...

Re: Wanted XL commuting frame and forks, disc compatible
I've not got rigid forks, but about to.sell an XL (20") Forme Ripley which could be anything from just a frame to a full bike. 27.5" wheels - let me know if that's possibly interesting and I'll send more details.

Re: My Commute (work in progress - mtb Sheffield!?!)
I agree, TPT from penistone through Wharncliffe woods and then road through Hillsborough (watching out for the tram lines!) would be much more sane!
Although I do quite like the original plan as it pretty much passes my doorstep - between the S of Sheffield and oo of Fulwood...

Two deliveries this week, both to tweak my new (to me) stooge dirtbomb... Bulldozer 29*3.25 front tyre, and a lovely beerbabe bag which also matches the one on my boingy bike. Dirtbomb is now lovely and, as such, there will soon be a fat bike, a hardtail and a fair few bits up for sale on here!

1079 project dry hopped pillsner from Aldi... £2.49 for 4 cans, yet it's a very pleasant tasty version of lager. Standard fridge stock in my house, just in case I fancy a beer and don't want something fancy/expensive/hipster!

Re: wtd, XL hardtail full build. urgent
I'm probably selling my 20" framed Forme Ripley - 27.5" wheel hardtail - in a week or 2. I was going to sell as a rolling chassis sort of set-up (frame, forks, wheels, post) but I could drag together enough bits to make either a singlespeed or possibly a 1x10 setup. You'd be welcome to bor...

Re: Oval chainrings
I've had one on my full sus bike for about 8 months now. Definitely helps with steep technical climbing and makes the bike smoother/less bobby. Biggest thing I've noticed is that I get stalled less easily on really steep bits as it's easier to pedal through top dead center. When the ring wears out o...

Re: Carrying fat inner tubes
On an on-one fatty, I'd wrap it in a plastic bag and tape it between the twin toptubes.
Otherwise, I'd keep a smallish frame bag on there with a tube, cheapo multitool, pump and a few quid inside so there's always the right tools onboard

Re: Insonia cures?
I've had phases of insomnia most of my life, and a couple of things (other than sex, whisky and sheer physical exhaustion) have helped at times. Shavasana (dead man) yoga pose is good as part of bedtime routine for me. Reading something not too involving, such as a novel I've read before or a text b...

Air bed/spare tube thought
In a moment of contemplation, I remembered balloon beds, and then though about if it would be possible to do something similar with a couple of inner tubes, probably held in place with some mylar or very thin sil-poly fabric. Looking more closely at sizes of tube, it might work better as a pillow, b...

Can I ask, how tall are people to need bars 840mm wide. Surely, there's a correlation between physical size and bar width ... otherwise you look like Jesus crucified. I agree - I'm 6'1 with ape like arms and run 780mm... Used to get the piss taken in about 2000 for running wide (probably ab...

Looks a good event for the future too - after a last minute trip.to.Bergen in early 2020, I've been desperately looking for an excuse to go back to Norway! Sounds fun; anyone want to lend me a fat bike? If you've tall enough to ride a 20" Fatty trail, then you're welcome to borrow mine for a day?
