Re: Cheap ways to Scotland

Roll on HS2! Sleeper is your best bet if you can get a deal Alas, it seems you can't get advance tickets on the sleeper, so the cheapest you'll probably get those is £150 + cabin cost (if you want one). You can book 12 months in advance on sleeper.scot. Free bikes. London-Glasgow is £90rtn on a rec...

Re: Cheap ways to Scotland

South coast here too. July we took train to Glasgow - £8 to London then £35 to Glasgow on Virgin. Book East Coast seats and bike space on West Coast website. Odd but true. Flew back Inverness to Gatwick Easy jet £55 iirc including the £40 bike bit. Book as far in advance as possible. I don't ever wa...

Zephyros 1and2, and others of that design eg Vango Zenith, all pitch outer first or both together.

Re: Highland trail accomodation list anyone?

Toured up there this July, before the school hols. Camping but I spotted all the B+Bs were NO VACANCIES. Everywhere. I don't like pre-booking, and if the wife's driving then hire a campervan?

Re: sore bum

Interesting breakfast reading  I've always worn just light baggies for shorter mtb rides, longer rides with padded bibs under, or even just the bibs, automatically really. On a road type bike just baggies don't work for me. Rode TNR with padded bibs, admittedly with no comfort or sore problems...

Re: One man tent on a budget

Also looking. How about the Vango Zenith 100? Looks like a copy of the Zephyros, also pitches in 1, but a bit bigger inside, bathtub groundsheet, pockets, similar weight & size (Vango list 'trail weight' 1.55kg), smaller packsize (35x14).

First thought was 'wind up'

Anyhow, if it's got legs that's fine. I live right at the very start of the SDW in Eastbourne, so will stock up on cross tyres and pork pies to sell to the riders :-bd

Re: Turin - Nice Video

Agree on it being an amazing experience. Hope the weather's as good this year! On logistics, BA were cheap Gatwick-Turin with a bike in a disposable CTC style plastic bag last year. Had a few more days to play with so I took the Intercite du Nuit Nice-Paris. 20Euro in advance for a reclining seat bu...

Re: Tyre / rim parting company - anyone?

This might have happened to me on TNR you know. Front Nano Race on Mavic 719, both non TLR. Long hot rubbly descent, no problem, onto tarmac, Bang! At the time I assumed I'd burped it in a pot hole or hit something, as there was no damage, but now you mention this...

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

Again, well done and many thanks on a great route James, and for aranging such amazing weather too. The cue sheets were invaluable too. For me, the Assietta, Gardetta push, Tende hundred bends descent and the Turini off road climb & road descent were the highlights, but it was just vaguely excit...

Re: What keeps you going?

gairy, was that you in BB top me & Steve passed having a tough time up the Sampeyre? For me the scenery alone on that trip was enough to keep me going, knowing it would get even better the higher you got. 'Racing' the 200km from Paris to the ferry in a bastard headwind the following week was tes...

gairy, just tested one and the route file loaded onto Bikehike, shows elevation, saves as a track, and yes the elev is still there when I load the new track back into Bikehike.

Re: The 1st Torino-Nice Rally, anyone?

I'm also signed up for this so time to pop in and say hello and in particular many thanks to James for organising this amazing looking ride. FWIW bike wise I suppose I could have stuck gears on my 29er Inbred but will be riding my flat bar London Road with Nano Race 40s tubeless and 1x10 38T-11/40. ...
