Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy

Looks like fun guys - sorry I wasn't able to join you all this year - I still have fond memories of the last one in 2019 and the moonlight on the snow on the journey up. There was a very slim chance I was going to be able to join you this year but Joe tested positive for Covid which put the kybosh o...

Re: The Hebridean Way

Loved that whole thing and have made lots of metal notes of places we didn't get to on our trip back in 2010. Have always had it in mind to go as the whole family and they're just about old enough to manage some of it at least  That sounds great - let me know if you make definite plans - I w...

Re: The Hebridean Way

Oh and that tennis court had me puzzled too, so I turned to Google and found this story: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/united-kingdom/scotland/articles/Bunabhainneadar-most-remote-tennis-court/ Oh that's wonderful - thanks for posting this. I will add the link to the story....

Re: great service

European suppliers had the assembly at £4 plus £5 postage. By way of balance, I wanted a paper gasket for my Rohloff shifter box, 40mm in diameter and paper thin. It was listed on the SJS website at £2.99 postage to Spain was £38 I rang them to discuss and they were totally inflexible. It would hav...

Re: The Hebridean Way

Nice. Also the Golden Road on the east coast of Harris is well worth riding but no golden beaches I'm afraid. Yes there's quite a few diversions we could have made, but I did well to persuade Joe to do the one as it was. Definitely a lot more there to discover - the Golden Road is on the list. Care...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2021

When the wind did arrive, it was full of wet stuff and, by them neither of us could be bothered with pitching outsied in the cold and wet so we decided just to sleep in the bothy. This turned out to be a good idea as the midge were back full force in teh morning. So great to have bothies open again...

:-bd Wondered what yous had been up to! Been out there a few times over the years and was just thinking that I should go back next year. I missed all of those eateries though, must try harder! Eateries were a bit thin on the ground! I'd love to go back again too. I would try to get to the bothy and...

The Hebridean Way

Joe and I rode the Hebridean Way this summer. It's a beautiful route and a wonderful experience to spend time on the islands. We hope you enjoy the write-up.

Re: Using a smartphone instead of a Bike Computer

I use an old Chinese lump of a phone with a 10,000 MaH battery for navigation. I wouldn't want to risk using my normal phone in case I ran it out and needed to call emergency services. I do have the normal phone for emergency navigation though and the lump for emergency phone calls. It feels like a ...

Re: Van recommendations

When I had a van I liked being able to put the bikes inside rather than fannying around with a bike rack and having bikes covered in road filth when I arrived. Also they felt safer inside. I did like having a vehicle I could sleep in, I must admit. It opened up the world to a whole new set of possib...

Re: Van recommendations

I always think when I see a VW van - "to all viewers, this van is full of expensive outdoor gear, please break in and nick it" Whereas a slight beat up Ducato (for example) is more likely to be over looked... A friend of mine bought an old van and had it signwritten like it was a plastere...

I enjoyed that. thanks Allen. One thing I would disagree with though is your assumption re the ownership of the run down cottage. It is very unlikely to be owned by a family in the way that you say. Most likely it was an estate cottage that was left to decay after it was no longer needed. It looks a...

Young guitar hero is right that EE is better for coverage in many locations in the Scottish Highlands though, but for everything else it's pretty good.
