Re: 99p P&P. Joe's shop for bikepacking gear

A big thank you to Mr Landslide of this parish for his sterling work promoting Joe's shop at every opportunity. If you see the chance to link to one of Joe's products in a forum site somewhere (who knew the London Fixed Gear and Single Speed forum existed?!! Who knew?!!) then it would be massively a...

Re: Help me think this through...

Since you’re looking at a X-Bow, I thought I’d mention that I really like mine , despite the toe overlap. It mainly gets ridden on the road these days as I also have a Pickenflick. It’s really light, comfy and nippy - just fun to ride. I really don't like the idea of the toe overlap, I have to say....

Re: Help me think this through...

the fuel savings by not driving were the same as it cost me. This is why I am able to justify buying a bike. I just sold my van for slightly more than scrap value and if I sell my road bike too I can scrape together enough for a gravel bike. It goes against the grain to spend it all on myself but i...

Re: Help me think this through...

*Just had a thought* How tall are you? I have a charge tange prestige plug With Kona carbon forks in a low slung 52cm in my shed. Built up with 105 10spd and cable discs. Like I said, just a thought. There must be a ton of similar 2nd hand bikes out there...... Thanks for the thought. I am 5ft4 tho...

Thanks for that. Yeah I have given up on the carbon idea as I can't afford one and cba with the inevitable compatibility issues that arise when building your own!

I'm not really planning on bikepacking on this new bike so the weight is less important - ali will do. :-bd

Re: Joe's shop for bikepacking gear

Can I make a suggestion for a product that if you could source, I would buy ? The little pill container... get a large one, that can accommodate a tea spoon head, so that I can take a small quantity (3 or 4 brews worth) of my favourite instant coffee. Something like an old film cannister but better...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

Nice tip, I'm after a 'starter' bivi for my daughter. What's SP though? Google hasn't helped! She might be better off with something like this. Not as warm as a bivvy bag but no condensation to worry about. Obviously it needs used under a tarp. Full midge protection and the net is well away from yo...

WTD - Gravel bike, XS or S

Wanted, an XS or very small gravel bike.

Has got to be cheap! I know that a Giant in a S is too big, but some other makes it might be ok. Def less than 50cm anyway.

Will need it posted unless you are in the Scottish Borders or an adjacent region. Cheers

I have a few kicking around from a cheapo set I got ages ago. We rarely use them. What capacity are you after? I can send you one if I have one that would work for you. FOC.
Cheers

Thanks. Yeah I was thinking of a new carbon fibre frame from China tbh. As I said I can't afford a second hand cf bike anyway. So far I have bought 2 cf bikes and 2 frames second hand from eBay without issues. Maybe I have just been lucky.

Re: anyone suffer from a very bad back ? advice needed.

Jeez, that's horrible. Really sorry to hear it. I have no medical advice to offer. If it was me I would be on a firmish mattress on the floor and whack a load of ibuprofen gel or arnica gel on the site of the pain. It probably won't do much for such severe pain but might help a little bit. I hope it...

Re: Help me think this through...

I’m not sure 650 wheels will work on a bike with rim brakes*. If it does, it will lower the bike too, so more chance of getting pedal stroke at the 6 o’clock position of banking over *long caliber brakes aren’t that much longer from memory Ok thanks. That's that option ruled out straight away then....

Help me think this through...

Ok so I posted recently about toe rub issues with my self-built road bike. Thanks to everyone who replied to that. I think from reading the responses I need to replace the cranks for shorter ones and perhaps also the fork to one with a greater offset. This has made me rethink the whole bike! The tru...

Re: Tent on rack + panniers / something else?

My son and I carry a 3 man tent between us for long trips and it's fine. He is now capable of carrying his own kit but when he was smaller I was able to carry more of the weight/bulk and still use bikepacking bags, as others have said, it is about finding low bulk solutions. It is perfectly do-able ...

Jeez. Well done to Police Scotland for persisting and finding him though. Suzanne Pilley's death still bothers me - her body is out there in Argyll somewhere. If anyone is ever going to find her it will be someone like one of us who goes to out-of-the-way places. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotla...

Re: Road bike question.

Why can't you sell it in good faith? It's how it was designed, there's nothing wrong with it it's just a function of having road bike geometry. Jane's Merida has a lot of toe overlap, she does catch the wheel with her foot occasionally but only if making a tight turn at a very low speed. My Planet ...

Further afield? Multi-day? Almost always. River crossings, shops, impassable obstacles etc are all issues. Frankly, I find the idea of heading off into some of our own "wilderness" with no plan pretty irresponsible, especially when conditions are sub-optimal. Like MRTs say - tell someone ...

Re: Am I right in thinking that ....

A remember several times where an announcement was made for England, quickly followed by an announcement for Scotland that would be different in what often seemed to be a pointed way. To be fair, doing the opposite of whatever Boris Johnson does seems to be a fairly legitimate strategy. Well yes ex...
