Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

I think what this whole discussion brings up is the wider issue that for many decades, UK energy policy/strategy has been lacking on many fronts. Politics clearly comes into it on many occasions, but the upshot is where we find ourselves; which is not enough headroom in supply, older sites being ke...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

The problem with modular reactors from my perspective is that nimbys will object to a small reactor just as much as a large one and it's much easier to guard a few large stations than lots of small ones scattered about. Two good points there And a modular reactor is less efficient. As a technology ...

I'm afraid the plants and animals will have to go How do you see that working out for your children and grandchildren? This has been taken out of context. If you read the whole paragraph it should be clear that I'm referring to the plants and animals that will be displaced by the wind farms not eve...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

Living by the sea and witnessing day in day out the power of the tides that are ALWAYS flowing, unlike wind, I find it amazing that we've not properly invested in harnessing this free power that surely could be done in a much less obtrusive manner. We (as a society) don't really have an efficient w...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

supply must equal consumption I'd say it's the opposite actually. If supply cannot equal consumption (demand) then grid failure will result. An example often used is when many people are watching, say, the word cup final. Consumption is fairly static. The grid operator is waiting for half-time Know...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

Have been reading this with interest. In the UK we generate electricity via the following..... Nuclear Fossil fuels ...gas, coal, biomass, etc Erratic renewables ...wind, sun Dependable renewables ...hydro Hydro is tiny, so forget that Sun is also tiny The average consumption yesterday was 32GW (sou...

Re: Recommend me a decent stills camera

. Definitely less than £500 new or used. Here is a rough list of preferences: - Useable manual focus - In camera stabilisation preferable - traditional/manual controls or ones that work well, I hate scrolling menus - EVF useable (if applicable) - Decent sensor (not neccesarily megapixels) - Great i...

Anyone have a Garmin 66i /or/ 67i ?

Hello,

Looking to upgrade my touch screen oregon and inReach mini to a Garmin 67i

Battery life on the 67i looks amazing.

And would be nice not being sensitive to rain on the touch screen.

Does anyone have and 66 / 67?
How is it for bikepacking ( and also for hiking it you also do that )?

Re: Waterproof Overshoes in a hurry - suggest some!

Another idea…. I used to use waterproof boots XM9 like many here. Fine until water got in Which on a bbx00 is fairly common Then swapped things around Kept with my mountain bike shoes Spesh recon 3 With sealskin waterproof soaks beneath. Works brilliantly When riding When weather is good wear normal...

Re: Recommend me a GPS

Not the mounts you'd use with a Garmin bike gps - 500, 1000 etc. The erred mounts are larger and the device slides in, rather than twists. You can get a converter on Amazon for use with Garmin mounts, I have one, there was a thread and link on here somewhere Garmin spline device (hiking GPS) To Gar...

I have always felt we are a welcoming group. Seen little discourse here that would lead me to conclude otherwise However, we seem to "welcome" a certain type of person. Or, to put another way, one has to be a certain type of person to wish to be part of this community Doesn't the above mak...

Used to get some saddle discomfort. Re: Bear Bones In April

I just took a look at the 2018 route and that is also an interesting route as it passes right by a bothy, would that be more suited to a gravel bike do you think? In truth, none are suitable for a gravel bike and yet they all are. The question isn't really 'is the route suitable for a gravel bike' ...

You can embed OS Landranger/Explorer with a GPX track on a Wordpress site using this free plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/os-datahub-maps/ But you have to register with the OS DataHbub service, and be sure not to exceed the map tile limits for the free user tier. I use this for the Lost Lanes...

Re: SPOT or InReach?

I noticed in T3 mag earlier today that the Garmin GPSMAP66 can come with InReach built in, not sure whether that is helpful or not. One less device, one less thing to charge/use/lose, but less redundancy...? Indeed, in the grand scheme of things "one more device" is no big issue. Also, an...

There is a setting on the inReach share page whereby a page visitor can ping the location of the inReach.

Setting is off by default I believe.

Is it +44 - a UK number? SPOT apparently is.

Edit - I just found this link:

Mine comes from a +44 number
