Re: Scotland 26th April - Bikepacking?

What is snow like on the HT550?

My friend was lead to believe there is still snow on some of the passes.

And only two weeks until we start.

Have I read the government info properly, are we good to do our thing from the 26th of April.

I feel a HT550 trip is in order.
Hope so, a friend and I are hoping to start the HT550 on Friday 30th April.

I look back on the experience fondly (having taken a few weeks (months?) to recuperate.
Time does wonders.
The 2018 bb200 is now merely a haze.

It would be interesting to see a beacons route from stu, he does come up with some crackers; however, I might live to regret it. 🤪😮

I'm sure Stu could suggest a nice 200km loop taking in the Beacons...
I’m fairly sure our view of “nice” will differ.

Re: Dartmoor, Exmoor, or Brecon Beacons?

Hi,

I’d be up for a Dartmoor weekender.

Riding the HT550 for the first two-weeks / three-weekends of may.

Dartmoor, Exmoor, or Brecon Beacons?

Now I’m living in Southampton Dartmoor, Exmoor, and the Brecon Beacons are within easy reach.

Of the three, which would people suggest for a weekend bikepacking adventure?

Re: multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

Done the DD twice.
Never had a problem with food.
Last year was under the shadow of lockdown.
There are plenty of garages along the way where one can purchase food.
Saves faffing and wasting time cooking and / or waiting.

Saddle bag suggestions for bike with limited saddle to wheel clearance please

A friend bought a medium 29er, a Specialized chisel.

The saddle bag she was using rubs on the rear wheel due to a lack of wheel to saddle clearance.

What saddle bags would people suggest for limited clearance?

Thanks.

Re: Cycling Apparel Brands - uni project research

There is one piece of cycling apparel that amuses me

Do a search for the “xm9” boots here and elsewhere.

Those boots are amazingly popular here.
One can hike in them.
And for anyone who’s (cough) ridden a bb200 the ability to hike in boots is a very useful feature.

Does anyone have a 2021 Specialized chisel in medium?

Hi,

A friend has a 2021 Specialized chisel in medium on order.

Bike is delayed.

She wants a custom frame bag from Alpkit for when we ride HT550 in May.

Does anyone have the bike from which they’d be able to create me a cardboard template?

A long shot I appreciate.

Thanks.

Re: Tent on rack + panniers / something else?

Hi, When I have cycled with a friend ((“K” below)) we have either had a tent each, or shared mine. Now, “a tent each” will likely be roughly equivalent to half of your three person tent shares between you. So, can the tent be shared. There after a liberal shake of TLS. 😋 === I imagine a 2litre pot i...

If you desire hand / wrist suppose how about these? Best “investment” I made for long distance, flat bar riding. https://www.ergonbike.com/en/product-details.html?a=griffe&anr=42410005&s=gptouring Surprised WTB didn’t call it the grip system. Sorry Gian but you've added an awful lot of caveats to that, which I'm afraid still don't alter the fact that the statement 'the lightest stove system ever made' is wrong and misleading. They didn't say, this is the lightest system 'if' and 'but'. We can also forget meths or open fires too b...

Nothing special about the above. Merely an open stove and a heat exchanger pan. I used to use similar. However, recent bikepacking (and backpacking) trips have been with a friend using her MSR windburner. I’m sold on the windburner. Yes, it’s bigger and heavier than the standard stove. But So much m...

Any use?
Possibly. How worn / old / perished are they? What do they weigh? How much would you want for them?
Will have a look at the weekend when home next.
