Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
Yes Jo, we'll be running as usual next year and badges will be available to those seeing it through / enjoying every moment   Will there be a 2019 one and is there a badge? I need some inspiration or I may as well sell my bivvy kit....and a little fabric badge normally does the trick...

Favourite route.....Ciro Trail Bosnia -Favourite piece of kit.......genuinely can't remember buying anything this year biking related. It's been one of those years. -Favourite piece of media, be it a film, photo or write up......errr. Does Tin Star count? It had mountains in it as well as a diabolic...

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2017 Blog
Ah that's so interesting! The bike was definitely a bike-for-life not a bike-for-fashion so I guess that's why it had that quirky feel. Lucky you getting to ride in Norway, somewhere I have always wanted to visit. I did wonder why it was not helitaped to keep it looking new... maybe it was but i did...

Re: BB530
I agree about solo touring/endurance rides. I spent all my weekday evenings doing social rides with others and often weekends too. Social mtb rides are great! However I'm v antisocial on the road bike and if I am honest I also like my space on long distance off-road tours sometimes. It adds a differ...

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2017 Blog
Nice write up! I was looking at your bike at the start and thought... "nice bike, looks like a custom american one" but good to know its more local than that. Nice paint job... Thank you :) That's interesting, no idea why you'd think it looks American? Not many people notice the paint, it...

Re: Luggage etc
I have a 40t sprocket on the back and a 22t granny up frontI'd love to see the gear setup that allows you to carry all that weight and still get up a 25% climb!
Takes half an hour to pedal round a carpark mind you

I have a short thermarest. I hate it. Yuk, cold feet!
The short Exped winterlite is properly full length for me at 5'3" and one of the best bits of kit I have ever brought

Re: Luggage etc
I'm pretty pleased with my current set up. I am consciously trying to reduce my comfort redundancy and ensuring items fulfill two purposes where possible. It takes guts to do it with the important stuff like lighting and power though. But I am trying to resist paranoia! Then there is always trade of...

Re: Instagram
I've also only just discovered the joy of Instagram. Signed up ages ago, never used it, then a few weeks back my friend said I'd probably like it a lot. She was right, really like the simplicity of it. Very little politics/hassle/tussles which are available in large measure elsewhere (twitter/FB/for...

Re: SPOT Trackers or alternatives
I got a SPOT finally, this year. I use it more than I thought I would. I have a life outside of disappearing off the grid. It takes the hassle and worry out of letting people know I am OK - they can just log in and watch me moving. It's good for me, both on multiday trips and long days on the bike e...

Re: Drum roll ... WRT GR.
I have a route done, I think We have it split pretty equally over three days with a total of 232 kms and 5778 m climbing, but I have also drawn up a bolt on optional extra for the second day which would add an extra 32 km and 826 m elevation. Barely picked up half of the NGRs so anyone who goes hunt...

Re: what do you cook...?
Favourites are: Ainsley Harriot roasted veg couscous with cashews thrown in and, if i am near a supermarket, something fresh like mange tout. Normally take vacuum packed veggie sausages that don't need refrigerating and pack a lot of protein into a little packet. Those little packs of cinnamon porri...

Re: ITT GPX online library
Great idea :-bd I've been thinking about putting together a big loop in my locality. It won't be for everyone, there will be lanes linking sections and I intend to put in a little urban off road/canals. I guess it'll never be an ITT but it may be of interest to those looking for a large multiday rid...

Re: "career breaks" or as I'd prefer to call it- buggering o
I am exceptionally able to burn bridges and cut ties if left to my own devices. I need for no-one, but that doesn't mean I don't really deeply value the few true friends I have. Ooh, this strikes a chord. I'm exactly the same - my childhood made me very independent and extremely self-reliant. I fin...

Re: "career breaks" or as I'd prefer to call it- buggering o
Good thread I am a bit in a similar position, but the thing I am lacking is motivation from myself to make a few changes that would free me up considerably. I need to do up the house to make it rentable. If I could rent my house, it would free me up to make other life choices with regard to cutting ...
