Re: SRT Operational Member Training.

I missed this first time round and so have just caught up after your update. Thanks for sharing, it's really interesting, particularly as someone who has been considering whether they're in a position to join an MRT in recent years. I would argue you're performing a very useful role in giving an hon...

Re: Sleeping bag recommendations please

Along with fluffy force as a measurement of fill power, can we adopt the Tunnocks teacake as the official SI unit of volume?

(Although their shrinking size over the years might compromise the usefulness of this.)

No book, but some nice stickers from some bloke in a shed (cheers Stu).

Also, early in the week, a Shimano 3W dynohub and a Cycle2Charge V2 (spending the money Santa brought me). Just need a rim and some spokes now. And nipples. And tape. And probably something else I've forgotten.

Re: I want to make a camera strap like this one

Interested to see how well that works (both the $78  one and your MYOG version). I quite often carry a DSLR with me and I usually put a webbing loop through one of my belt loops just behind my left hip and I hook the camera strap (which goes over my right shoulder) to that with a mini carabin...

Interesting, I was having very similar thoughts recently. I'm trying to work out what this year's "thing" is going to be too, and for a few years now I've wondered about doing a coast to coast across "the wide bit that no-one goes to." I even got as far as looking at maps recentl...

Re: Baa Baa Bikepack - 5360km in the UK.

Race against the clock - 1 Stage One person will win. It is a race. Having explained the details of the event to British Cycling, it was explained to me that the format falls outside of what they cover and also due to the likely distance between riders, certainly by the time we get off the initial ...

Is this the most hipster bikepacking accessory?

To be fair, I'm not sure it's marketed as a bikepacking accessory, but it's on bikepacker.com.

vaguely exciting! Some great photos. I like the way you've written the post, putting the photos into little groups, "riders," "camping," thorns," etc. and letting them tell the story with just enough words, rather than simply putting them chronologically.

Sorry to go back to the Timber (no I'm not using the marketing department's "!") bell but... The fail for me, which I would love to be told I'm wrong, is that you can't use it like a normal bell and just ding it? e.g. you're riding down a flat bit of tarmac'd path and it's shared use On ve...

Re: Dirt drops?

I've used some of those "stick-on" drop bars Trail-rat mentioned on my commuter (previously my do-it-all bike which I've done some fairly long on and off-road rides on) and when I moved to BB7s I bodged a crosstop lever on to one so I can brake from that position too. It's quite a narrow p...

What other people have said about "feeling more outdoors" blah de blah, but also... I feel safer in a bivvy bag. Sometimes I get nervous camping in less than ideal situations. If you're the sort of person who wakes up at every little noise and thinks "what's that," in a bivvy bag...

+1 for Bearbones flasks, and maybe a bit smaller than your average flask for bikepacking friendliness (size + weight + need to not wake up with a sore heid).
