Re: Maps for my phone - alternative to OS Maps?

I'm a long time Back Country Navigation user as well, but it is more like just an on phone map than a navigation device. IE you can't follow a route.

caching maps is easy, having OS in the UK is great.

Mad quilt idea, perhaps!

So I was out on a bivvy last night, oddly using the same system as Jamesco, a PhD minimus and a cumulus 150, except I had the PhD on the inside. I had forgotten to bring any thermals so was a bit brisk whilst cooking and chilling in my shorts. So I slipt in to my cumulus, hitching it up to walk abou...

Re: Water Filter

I'm a sawyer filter user. If you go sawyer, also buy this https://ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/vecto-2l-water-container---28mm/ It allows you to pop to the stream and fill this up and attach the sawyer filter to, then you ditch the blue sawyer bag completely. Possibly worth taking the syringe with yo...

If you are a Strava subscriber take a look at fatmap.

Great for France, Spain etc IGN maps as well as OS.

Fatbikerphil,

Counting adders on the isle of Arran. Could almost be a joke!

On the off chance it isn't how many did you count /add?

My son has just left Addison Road.

For some bizarre reason all the parking is free and unmeteted.

Out of interest what examples of stove might be OK?

Would an alpkit kraku or koro be allowed?

Re: Aeroe rear rack thoughts

Two JMC riders just cycled passed on a big two day ride, Bollington to Bollington.

One had the aluminium tail fin. Looked very svelte and the aluminium one comes with triple cage mounts on the vertical bits.

Re: Aeroe rear rack thoughts

Cheers.

In an odd sort of way I can't explain I quite like the look.

Any thoughts on their ability to impede hike a bike?

I guess they also affect balance detrimentally of the bike if it means weight moving from the inner triangle to the rear.

Aeroe rear rack thoughts

My full triangle bag is getting a bit thread bare as is my seat bag holder so was pondering an aeroe rear pack with two holders ie on the sides. This is to go primarily on the solarismax, but also a gravel bike (not yet bought) for general bike packing with inevitable hike a bike. Edit: I'd probably...

Think I've mentioned my beloved cannondale polartec 100 cycling tops before here when trying to find a replacement. Despite being about 30 years old they are still my go to base layer, 1/4 zip, snug fit, back pockets, thin as #### now. Only wish they had a longer zip. I wear it next to skin, a summe...

Re: Which chain lube?

Smoove on the mtb.

Any old wet lube on the road bike. The detailed science behind my decision for the road bike is purely that it sees less Lancashire grit on the road.

Re: OMN (Yet Another Post-Viewranger Navigation app thread)

This might sound odd but I'd be interested to know how you are using your phone based apps when out and about. Info like: Is it in airplane mode Do you have a separate device for phone calls Do you use a walking/cycling device as well. For me, I moved from an etrex to a garmin 830 and that is my pri...

Thanks all,
Not sure a whole new bike is a solution

Near death experience - > what road/gravel gearing

So yesterday I had what can only be described as one of my cat's lives used. Riding down from the Cat'n'Fiddle on my 16 year old carbon planetX road bike. It suddenly went into violent harmonic shakes. Truly frightening and I struggled to stop. Caused as much by a very strong side wind I think . Bik...

Re: Peak district bothy question

Cheers all, Made it up to oyster Clough last night and very grateful to find it. It'd have been a really grim night to have camped out. All dry inside apart from a puddle in the far right corner but still room for three of us easily, me under the table with some tyvek under the bivvy bag. Plenty of ...

There is a shooting cabin bothy in the peak district above the old snake inn SK 11764 91486

Anyone know how much sleeping space there is in there?

Thanks
