Re: Garmin Etrex mounts

The RAM mounts are very secure but also very clunky and quite heavy, I have one in my sailing canoe for using my etrex in that. On the bike I just use the Garmin mount zip tied on top of the stem, I always use the lanyard as a back up but after adding a small length of self amalgamating tape (that f...

A pair of Montane Featherlight Pants from Sport Pursuit for apres ride, anti midge camp wear during summer bikepacking (or other lightweight camping) trips. That (and potentially trail running) Assuming we all buy those trousers and that Outdry jacket, any potential BB meet is going to get a bit co...

Re: coffee bags

Don't you find you need to carry a wet soggy coffee bag around once you've used it? Well as somebody who lives in Scotland but grew up in Yorkshire I wring them out so there's not much sogginess left when I've finished but yes you're right the used bag has to be carried out with you. I suppose cutt...

Re: coffee bags

My local CoOp (in Argyll spookily enough) currently have these ones in stock. They definitely have more oomph than the Taylors ones if you're into that sort of thing. I quite like both these and the Taylors ones depending on my mood.

Spooky. I fancy riding the Finland/Sweden/Norway sections of the TET when I make my return to motorised two wheelers. I was just reading a blog on ADV about it last night.

Re: Waterproofs

My OutDry Ex Light jacket arrived from Sportpursuit this morning. I went for the size Large in Phoenix Blue, it was £74.99 plus another fiver for delivery (so still ten quid cheaper than the clearance on Columbia's own website). After reading BigdummySteve's comment about sizing in his post above I ...

My humming and hahing phase has come to an end and I've taken the plunge and ordered an OutDry Ex Light shell, size large, I hope it's big enough for my colossal bulk!

Re: whats our purpose in life

I don't think I have a purpose in life, I just drift along trying to enjoy it whenever possible and not do too many shitty things in the process. I find myself thinking about purpose in life more as I get older (inevitably I suppose) but I try not to dwell on it as it's scary grown up nonsense and I...

Re: New Tent - BEAR WITH ME

I have a Hexpeak V4a and I'm sure there'd be enough room in it for a three year old and an adult. I love mine, it's super roomy for solo camping and is fairly light and packable. I use mine with one of Stu's superb carbon poles and some ti pegs to further minimise weight. :-bd

Endura Convert Softshell jacket from CRC £42.49, (looks like it'll be great for cooler weather riding with the option to zip the sleeves off and turn it into a gilet). Also a Singletrack waterproof jacket in purple for 'er indoors on the odd occasion she goes outdoors!

Re: Waterproofs

I've been looking at the OutDry jackets since I read this thread. They seem to tick all the boxes in my search for a bikepacking waterproof for the horrible West of Scotland weather conditions I usually ride in. I'm quite tempted by this one since it seems to have been designed for trail running an...

That pretty much tallies with what the sizing chart says then. I usually buy XL with this type of thing but according to the sizing chart L would be about right. Thanks for the advice gents, much appreciated. :-bd

Thanks Stuart, yeah it looks like it'd be good. How was the sizing on the EX goldtech? Does it fit as expected for the chosen size?

I often carry my Montane Prism Pants for apres bike wear. They're a bit more bulky that the Featherlights but can be used to boost my sleeping bag a bit too.

Re: Grips /bars

I have Ergon GS2s on my bikepacking bike, they're great. The mini bar end thing is surprisingly useful for climbing out the saddle and the grips themselves are so comfy that I've binned my alt bars and gone back to conventional low risers (albeit in carbon).

I bought all the tools and it's nice to have them but I'm not sure they're really that necessary with hindsight. The one for seating the freehub is very handy though. Mr Whitestone's offer sounds very attractive and generous if you're running P2E/P4s.

Re: After some accommodation for New Year in Aviemore anyone

I know you said you didn't want to go in your camper but we spent New Year at Glenmore campsite a few years ago and it was great. It was in our old van (a VW T4) which had no built in heater. It snowed while we were there but we had an oil filled radiator and a hook up so we were toasty. :-bd I'd st...
