do you say ' good morning' to the 1st magpie you see each day ? i do.

are magpies more common nowadays ? there seem to be loads about.

and they are always in groups or 6 or 7 or seem to be. is that where the song comes from ?

Re: multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

yes, i dont like taking loads of stuff on the bike, when touring i manage with a couple of small panniers. deciding what to take is easy, a couple of pairs of shorts and tee shirts for evening, and a spare pair of riding gear. that is it. off road in the past on polaris events i managed with a KIMM ...

multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

i may live to regret this, but i am having a go at the dales divide this year. whilst touring i always like to use cafe's, shops, pubs, because i find it all part of the trip. so seeing as tho cafe's will only be open for takeaway, pubs open for outside only i was wondering if it makes sense to be a...

Re: Steel vs Carbon forks for reducing fatigue

i have never ridden carbon forks until this year, well since jan. carbon is very forgiving on the road. moreso on crap road surfaces. i have found it more forgiving than steel. offroad i would still prefer the strength of a steel fork if i were riding at pace. so carbon will be ok for me from now on...

Re: Carbon neutralising deliveries and other plastic sparing 'goings on'!

i retired a couple of weeks ago, prior to that i have cycle commuted for 38 years without fail. distances varied over the years. wakefield to leeds for 10 years. rothwell to bradford for 5 years and rothwell to armley for 20 years, which was a 6 mile ride, but i rounded it up to 10 each way. most ye...

Re: Going tubeless...

i am a 1st time tubeless user. rode out on thursday and picked up 2 x small lengths of thorn bush in my front tyre. pulled the longer one out straight away. small amount of sealant came out, but sealed withing seconds. left the second one in the tyre. once home got some tweezers and tried to get the...

Re: What happened to 24 hour racing?

i did a MM in a team of 4 iirc. the riding was pretty rubbish if i remember. lots of grass with the odd bit of singletrack thrown in. and i could have gone on a months cycle tour for what the weekend cost.

Re: 'The China effect'

my thoughts are quite often a bit strange. in my mind the way forward would be to close all trade borders with all other countries. no import, no export. make everything we need in our own countries. grow all we need to eat in our own countries. would this be possible ? i dont know. but we produce s...

Re: Them panniers

i may have a go with those. i have been using a carradice saddle bag on my new fargo. the strap that go''s round the seatpost has rubbed a grove in my thomson seatpost, in about a month use. if i had not taken the bag off today to wash the bike, it would have worn right through the post. so a little...

Re: Going tubeless...

only been tubeless since january. and it has been ok so far, fingers crossed.
40 psi on a 2.25 tyre set up. but it is carrying a bit of a load.

2 spare tubes and a mini pump on the bike. if i have a air loss, i will probably go back to tubes, i cant do with faff.
