Could it be tinnitus?

Have you, by any chance, been listening to Meatloaf really loud?

Re: Why eTrex Over Edge?

The newer Edges come with a nice tether that fits in the slot, which you could then attach to a carabiner/Prince Albert/loop of your choice.

Re: YD300 2021

The road route is fantastic. :-bd really glad I did it. If I do it again, and I probably will, then I'd take a lighter bike and no sleeping gear - it's very do-able in a one-er. I'd probaby set off a bit earlier too. Having said that I stopped at pretty much every cafe and tea room I passed y...

Re: Why eTrex Over Edge?

I've had both for a few years, much prefer the Edge tbh. Switched up to an 830 (from an 810) last year and it's superb. If you don't constantly faff with it you should get a full day out of a charge, and it's super quick to charge.

Re: First long ride on drops and my hands are screwed...

Riser stem will help if you can put one on, the higher the better. Maybe move your saddle forwards slightly too. Both things will take weight off your hands.

Thicker tape on your bars/double wrap/both for extra padding and soaking up the small vibrations.

Evil option obvs but flights are available as a last resort. I've flown to Inverness with the bike for a JoGLE. Easyjet go from Gatwick and Luton.

How tall are you? We're roughly the same height if my hazy memory serves, how is the Gatewood Cape for length?

Re: Dot Watch Hopefully Fast Borders 350 Attempt

Yeah the trails are all pretty fast other than that grassy push over the Southern Uplands Way. That slowed me down quite a bit. And the Roman Road section in Craik Forest was so boggy I had to push some of it. Be interesting to see his speed over that Cheviots Pennine Way stretch. Have you had much ...

Knee-high Dexshells for me. Had the same pair about 3 years and they're still solid. Comments above about washing machines etc. are on the money for anything with a membrane - don't do it. A soak and rinse in warm water every couple of months and drip dry or put them on a radiator with a towel under...
