They do have quite a few in, but sadly nothing suitable in my size. Cheers though. :-bd

Could well mean Alan Smith.

Or Alan Smith.

It feels like a name from a bygone era tbh.

getting pissed a lot does indeed impare cycling performance
Improves banter performance though, which is usually the more important metric on this type of trip.

Re: Benefits of exercise vs negatives of diet

Based on purely anecdotal evidence I'd say the number of pints (or bottles of Tuscan vino rosso) are more problematic on multi-day rides...

Re: Great North Trail vs Pennine Bridleway

I'd use the PBW as a loose basis for a route. There are definitely stretches where the better riding is away from the trail. The stretch south of Castleton is pleasant but not particualrly dramatic. If you prefer fells then you'd be better heading more north out of Matlock and picking up the Eastern...

This would be my choice too tbh Allen. All very well someone online saying "fcuk it, they'll be fine", but the consequences of it going bad are potentially grim.

Re: multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

I was thinking of starting a very similar thread Tony. Food's not a massive concern tbh - there's a reasonably good spread of places and you'll pass by at least a couple each day. Coffee's a mild worry but I really can't be arsed with a stove. :| Water is my biggest concern tbh. It was scorching hot...

Re: Steel vs Carbon forks for reducing fatigue

Lauf users - do you think I should persevere with it and try and adapt a bit? Sounds like it’d save my wrists a fair bit. I really would. Start with the mentality that you're going to ride it like a rigid and progress from there, you'll soon get to know where the limit is. It's definitely not suppo...

Re: Steel vs Carbon forks for reducing fatigue

That’s my fork! Selling as it was very sketchy on the few rides I did with it. Anything rocky and the fork was pogoing all over the place making it hard to steer. Think the Lauf is ideal for gravel and sedate trails, but not stuff with rocks bigger than apples. Stem wise I have a 60mm Thomson. I’ll...

Re: Steel vs Carbon forks for reducing fatigue

Another option is to just bite the bullet and get a 100mm travel fork but I like not having to worry about fork servicing. The best option would be to buy a Lauf fork. 65mm travel and no servicing requiements. As someone who used to suffer badly in the hands/wrists/arms they've been a gamechanger, ...

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

I find it a bit weird no one mentions Maxxis Minion and DHR II - to beefy for most? Horses for courses Gian. Both heavy tyres with a grippy sticky compound and would be overkill for most summer riding in the UK. I've got 2.8"s on another bike - cracking tyres for proper offroading in winter, not qu...

@ In Reverse and anyone who wants to take a punt. I ordered via PayPal with some protection if they don’t materialize ( fingers crossed). Just called in the Trek shop in Manchester and they said they've no XR2 left anywhere, expecting the next stock in July. Ordered a pair as a just in case.

Ordered a road bike while I was there too, expected Q1 2022

Re: 29+ Tyres Vanished?

You can get XR2 direct from Trek, I've recently bought a pair. They do a more aggressive one too - SE4 or something?

Still a fair bit of Surly stuff knocking about, worth giving Keep Pedalling a bell.

You got an email address Tony, can't add attachments to private messages here.

EDIT: check your PMs, should be a link.
Any chance you could send the link to me too please? I don't seem to have got the route from Chris.
