Re: Destroying parts!

I destroy bits of the full sus on a fairly regular basis, esp the drivetrain. Being a heavy lump with poor technique really isn't good for bikes if you're riding them hard, nor is the gritty mud of the Dark Peak/West Pennines. My other bikes tend to be OK though - it's rare that I'll break anything ...

Re: Dales Divide. anyone having a go ?

Is that your first big multi-day on your new bike? New saddle/set-up probs? Nordy was convinced you’d hit the boozer to make up for all the lost pub-time in lockdown! There might be a bit of that in it Jase but I think it was more just down to bad arse maintenance tbh. I was ill on the first night ...

Re: Dales Divide. anyone having a go ?

A lot of folk on drops and 40mm tyres, I noticed that. Stuart Rider posted a short video clip of riders coming through (somewhere) and at first it appeared that there weren't any mountain bikes present. Yeah gravel bikes must have outnumbered mtbs by 2 or 3 to 1, by far the most I've seen at a bikp...

Re: Dales Divide. anyone having a go ?

Yeah I binned it off at Scarborough yesterday. Had an angry welt of skin on the gooch that wasn't getting any better and wasn't too chuffed at the thought of riding on it in damp shorts for annother 36 hours. Clocked the forecast for today (wind, rain, misery) so I'd already been wavering. When I ro...

Going to be chilly overnight - down to 0°C, "feels like" -2°C on saturday night/sunday morning. Only slightly warmer on the Sunday night.

Glad I checked the forecast before I started packing...

Muc off sealant in 300mm sized bottles for £6.99 in Aldi, I brought two :-bd I had a load of grief with Muc Off sealant. Kept losing the seal on the rims in the wet. Same thing happened to another couple of people I know up here. Might just have been a bad batch but my LBS have stopped selling it a...

I've had a super boost full sus (a Mondraker) since Nov 2017. Hope hub.

Pivot were doing them at the same time iirc but that was about it.

edit - looks like they were around in 2015 https://bikerumor.com/2015/12/22/mondra ... -rr-and-r/

Re: multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

Depends how much water you usually need to drink tbf Shaf, and how hot it is, and what else you're using to carry water.

Hope that helps

As above I think two bottles plus *something* will be my strategy.

Re: Great North Trail vs Pennine Bridleway

I'd use the PBW as a loose basis for a route. There are definitely stretches where the better riding is away from the trail. The stretch south of Castleton is pleasant but not particualrly dramatic. If you prefer fells then you'd be better heading more north out of Matlock and picking up the Eastern...

Re: multi day trip. self sufficient or local services ?

I was thinking of starting a very similar thread Tony. Food's not a massive concern tbh - there's a reasonably good spread of places and you'll pass by at least a couple each day. Coffee's a mild worry but I really can't be arsed with a stove. :| Water is my biggest concern tbh. It was scorching hot...
