Re: 2017 goals and achievements
Well I don't think I replied on the original plans thread, but I did discover VV explorer which became a good riding excuse and got myself upto 17x17 squares, and a couple of squares required to take it 20x20. Hoping to do that before the year is out. Got myself out on my first bike packing race, th...

Any chance I can grab a copy of the gpx?
I won't be along due to work, but I've been looking at this area for a trip in the new year.

Re: Is it just me?
I think that a lot of our comments reflect on how the prices of these events has jumped up for next year. I think the Reiver has gone from £40 to £70 since last year? I didn't baulk at the first year and was considering going again this year (its a good, well run event) but that price hike just made...

Re: Gear Levers (or Shifters)
Always replace full cables and outers as a starting point. Next point would be sticky shifters. Seen a few where the stock grease has dried out/been washed out and they start to stick. Bit of time with some gt85/wd40 type stuff and working the mechanism should free it up. Given the cost of acera shi...

Re: Gravel Bike Components
I've got the Easton EA70AX bars and reckon they're great, shape seems spot on. 1x is a no brainer for me now. I'm currently running a superstar ring on a set of Ultegra cranks with a 105 long cage and a 11-36t sunrace 11speed cassette. Works well enough on my mixed surface commute with a couple of h...

Re: BB30 adapters - Wheels manufacturing
The bearings themselves are same size in bb30 and pf30. 6806 if I recall correctly. The adaptors should work in both absolutely fine. Just a case of getting the spacing right so as to not overload the bearings.

I'm pretty sure 29+ won't fit in the rear, but why not keep a regular 29er tyre in the back seen as you have the rims already?

I had a run of Conti trail tyres (mtn king, X-king) from customer and myself split at the bead like that a couple of years ago. 6 I think in 2 weeks or so. I believe Conti has reinforced them is this area since but maybe not.

15mm TA Exposure/SP dynamo hub.
Just found out this doesn't fit my Sequoia even with adaptors or any of my other bikes now. So it's up for sale. It's built on to a Mavic xm419 rim with a rim specific tubeless strip. 32 DtSwiss Champion black spokes and brass nipples. It's not got silly miles on it, maybe 1500km. £125 plus a tenner...

I'd run the current xt shifter, but go with which ever 11spd derailleur your budget will allow. You'll never notice the difference in performance with the different mechs.

160mm front and back on the Sequoia, 180mm front, 160mm rear on the Stooge, and 200mm front 180mm rear on the White T129 which is what I use on the steep stuff so want the best control and modulation I can get. I've used Alligator rotors in the past and found them to be next to useless. Current Shim...

Thanks again to everyone involved. Stu and Dee through to the guys I met on route. It was a superb challenge.
I'll be back. The other half has already thrown down the gauntlet by saying she doubts I could do sub 24hrs.

Re: BB200 - The Aftermath
Thanks to Stu and the crew for an excellent event. As my first event of this type I wasn't sure what I'd let myself in for, and at midnight over the top of Carnau, I really started questioning myself. However, having met several great people, had a snooze up past Clearwen and getting round the loop ...

Re: Spot Gen 3 USB port Cover
Garmin ports aren't despite what they say. I know from my one experience my edge will only charge now and cannot connect to a computer with USB any longer. Garmin say I got the port wet! Quite a common problem I've discovered recently. Quite a bit info out there on how to deal with corrosion on the...

Re: Garmin edge batteries
Thanks.
Been trying to find out what the standard spec battery in the 800/Touring is, just to find if there is anything out there for it. I've replaced the battery in my old 500 easily enough so I should be ok with this.

Garmin edge batteries
Has anyone here replaced a battery in a garmin edge for a higher mAh battery? I guess it should increase the length of use on a single charge, but am I presuming incorrectly?
Thanks

What's so good about these stooge things? Are they fast or fun or both? How can a 1 size fits all rigid bike suit so many people? I need to experience one I think (mike - fancy swapping with my stumpy singlespeed for the bb200?) Two sizes available now. Always fancied one, mainly on the looks to be...

Re: ethics of chinese carbon frames
I remember reading that, as a society, we are essentially self-sufficient in aluminium IF we recycled all that we currently have. Flip side of that is producing Aluminium from ore is a hugely costly and requires massive energy consumption. So the obvious question is are we doing enough to recycle w...

Flipside, I can't understand why so many people buy fairly uncomfortable bikes that are limited to use on often-busy roads... 'Adventure' bikes = what 'road' bikes should be for all but the keenest racer types. This, like a million times. I work in a road biased shop and I still have yet to work ou...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?
I have borrowed a friend's unit for just this basis. I'm can't see my justifying the purchase and full contract of one for the 2-3 trips a year I might feel the need for one. Its a bloody expensive bit of kit given the amount of time it actually gets used. I suspect Spot will have something to say a...
