Re: Nights drawing in - happy?

Always been a summer kind of person, don't like the lack of daylight and poor circulation doesn't encourge me. Having said that, cold, crisp night rides on my local patch are something I look forward to. Just aim to make the most of the light before the clocks go back.

Re: If you could only choose one

Probably a full sus with enough travel to be fast and comfortable and enough to get you out of trouble. 100-120mm. Transition's Smuggler appeals massively.

Re: Todays ride

Just fitted some Conti 42mm speed-ride tyres to my Kinesis cross for commuting duties. Bit of a longer way round, but mean I'm now avoiding all the traffic and using the canals and old railways rather than the A roads. Much more pleasant.

Re: Cotswold Riding.

I'd be up for that. Just like you, commute as much as possible by bike and MTB or CX at the weekend. Have to work Saturdays though, but getting the odd one off isn't a problem, neither would a ride from work on weekends. Do you ride much locally on the weekends?

Live in Gloucester, work in Tetbury, you could say its my patch.
Try to ride pretty regularly, just getting into the bikepacking thing and acquiring kit in readiness for my first attempt.

Be careful on which one, many different standards for the thread end and now the other end fits the frame.
Having said that, I think I've got a syntace one at work. Email me at workshopATvelotonDOTcoDOTuk and I'll let you know what I've got in the spares drawer.

I'd stick with Shimano from experience. Might fit the higher spec ones from XT though.

Looks like a good trip. Love the look at that first spot. The Ridgeway has caught my attention for my first multiday trip as its not a million miles from work/home.

Re: At one with the World...well finding the right saddle

Charge Spoon and its various mates have been good to me on the mtb, but currently running a Fizik Gobi and getting on well with it. As for the road machines, well the spoon was just agony, spent a long time looking for replacements and alternatives and finally settled on the relief channel versions ...

I believe the likes of Rain-X are the best ways to keep water and mist to minimum. As suggested, keep a good cleaning cloth close to hand. Oakley's bags live in my jersey pockets.

Re: helmet, yes or no?

Always, apart from short road tests at work flicking up and down gears. Only time it comes off during normal riding will be long off road climbs in hot weather. I've had too many incidents where I've been left wondering "what if I hadn't been wearing that" to risk it. It's quite refreshing...

Primus ETA Express stove. £95 down to £45. Might be a bit big and heavy for most, but quite a saving. I like the built in windsheild

Another newbie

Sorry to be posting another one of these threads, but thought I ought to introduce myself. I got completely sucked into that thread on STW and have been starting to acquire kit. Currently looking to utilise my new Kinesis 5t disc for local duties (find a CX bike covers almost all terrain round these ...
