Re: The man who wanted to see it all
No, I think it definitely can be. I've watched loads of 'proper' documentaries and YouTube series of people's travels that have been ace. Both short trips and long ones. Also read a good number of books and articles of people trips that have been great. Unfortunately, for me this documentary was jus...

Re: The man who wanted to see it all
Another one who gave up after a short while watching it. I think a lot of people (most?) doing this kind of long term thing end up relying on the kindness of strangers to a large degree, and possibly pick up a few benefactors along the way. Obviously articles and photos will give him some sort of su...

Breakfast of champions! Hot choccy and pot noodle. Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Well I'm set up in the woods for the night of 1/12 only about 9km from home. Got an over quilt safety-pinned on as an under quilt, not sure how that'll work, but we'll see. I'll feed back tomorrow.... https://i.postimg.cc/WDC5B0XS/IMG-20230122-152641-848.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/7JYX7X6H/IMG-2023012...

Re: Do you remember your first time?
I did loads of camping as a kid from around the age of 8 with cubs and in the back field. Single skin crappy tent, crisp packet sleeping bag and no mat at all then just stuffed bracken and stuff under the tent. Progressed to more suitable camping gear as a teenager and backpacking and climbing trips...

I'm more worried about my meths leaking than a canister of gas. I thought it was common practise in the cold, along with batteries/things with batteries.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Not judging, just interested! Fur lined rigger boots sound better than wellies. Not that I can really wear either, they just don't work with my feet size/shape. Here it's icy enough my feet won't get wet; every track puddle I rode over today was frozen solid as we're the ridges of mud which made it ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Cool, cold even :-bd Wellies as in you ride in Dunlop's (or whatever brand) Aren't they a little too flexible? I'm hoping I can get my first one in soon. It'll have to be soon  First a knackered ankle stopped play, that caused a knackered back which is now settling. Atleast I have a few local p...

Re: Last bike/next bike
Last bike a Cannondale Topstone 2018. My other bike is a 2012 Charge Cooker 3.
No plans for any other bikes in mind.
I do keep thinking about a recumbent due to wrist issues, but it's just too much £££. Ideally it'd be a e-recumbent with knee and heart issues too, but that's even more £££.

Re: Fat Fighters '23
Cheers. Currently just having to have naproxen when it's too much for my wrists. I was getting steroid injections until covid stopped them, then moved to a new area, so going through a whole new process with a new consultant. He seems great, but won't do anything until seen new MRIs, which could be ...

Re: Fat Fighters '23
That's a bugger gairym  Unfortunately I've never been offered such luxury as an MRI or detail on my ankle, just been told yeh it's buggered I feels like I could easily dislocate it now. In other tales of bodily woe, I'm still waiting for a MRI on my wrists for them to decide if I carry in with ...

Re: Fat Fighters '23
Good to see a number of us here on the path of lightness. Sods law my back went yesterday, hopefully it'll not stop me getting some level of exercise for too long. Obviously it wont make food jump in my gob, but it gets hard when you're in pain and grumpy with it. I think doing stuff on my knackered...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Yeh I did, but i got eaten alive by midgies in the process  The reason it was thrown out the tent was the midgies were so bad I was packing a bag, opening the tent door as little as possible to chuck each bag outside and then zip it up asap to try to stop the buggers getting in. Then the trial ...

I had similar thoughts
Also reminded me of be throwing a packed dry bag out the tent when packing an it bouncing down the bank into the river and me thinking 'oh atleast it's in the dry bag' before seeing it floating away and me racing out the tent half naked and after it

That's crap, but also good news Loki that you're on the mend.
A big well done for getting back to it , small steps will make big changes
Maybe if I listened to my own advice I'd stop having my own health crashes

Re: What are you listening to now?
Chandash;Thetford Feast. Some folksy protest song type group I came across decades ago at some grungy camps I used to go to. Wet afternoon here. I'm sorting through my old CDs and reminiscing on what I used to get up to over 20 years ago and wondering about people I've lost touch with. Happily feeli...
