Cheers, I think it's starting to make sense now!
The map on bikepacking.com must be the revised version. It avoids Raelees Wood AND GOES TO SELKIRK

Capital trail... but which version?

'ow do. We're going to have a go at this in April. But I'm not sure which "Capital trail" we'll be doing at the moment! Has anyone got the current gpx file? The map on bikepacking.com in places doesn't match the written description. I've not checked the whole thing, but around Minch Moor/T...

Aye, bonus point. Although at first glance I thought it was an innovative use of a towel, what with the colour  .

Re: Single skin tents: do they work in British conditions?

My Lanshan failed miserably when pitched in the garden of nice pub at Stanbury.
Nowhere in the instructions does it say "Drinking 6 pints of refreshing ale before zipping yours self in for the night will create moist conditions for sleeping"

Well I think it all looks smashing. Classic Bearboning territory.
Plenty of pork pies and lashings of ginger beer.

Re: HT550 2023

Met up with Annie Le at Kinlochleven this evening. She was pretty chilled, and said she was aiming to enjoy the last 50 miles.
Liz is steady away, she was super rapid for the first couple of days. I haven't spoken to her, sent a few texts. She'll likely be up at 5 tomorrow to start the Torridon bit.

Re: HT550 2023

Hi, I'm not sure if you realize but we have another 'boner racing. My hard as nails 60 year old wife "LT". Liz has been yo-yoing the "Isla group" most of the way. She's way up on her expectations of where she'd be. Only another easy downhill 150 miles to go... 😉

Re: The Pictish Trail - more Scotlandshire for you.

We looked into the theory of getting a train from Manchester to Thurso. No possibility of taking a bike, so seems lime a bit of a non-starter. Is it due to a number of the trains actually being buses. I'm not a prolific public transport user, so know little about these things!

Lanshan owners and heavy rain...

'ow do. 1st time using the mighty lanshan in pouring rain and I experienced moistness. It was proper p!ssing it down, I had the door zipped down fully and had the to be expected condensation. I was woken up by what felt like light drizzle. Do you think it was rain coming through or just the condensa...

Re: what is a bikepacking bike?

Having followed Liz and Pete around the Cairngorm300 and the northern version of the Jennride I'd go for a short travel full sus with a dropper.
Pete seems to find his 160mm travel full bounce perfect for the BB300 and a sub 24 hour Calder Divide.
