Re: Why eTrex Over Edge?

I chose the Etrex , primarily, for the convenience of being able to get hold of AA batteries anywhere (even though I've only had to do this once, because I forgot the spares, I was very grateful of the option) The only disadvantage - albeit one that doesn't particularly affect my pattern of usage, i...

Re: Leeds to london on canal path?

I've precisely zero input re: the routing element of this thread BUT I would like to chime in re: long, flat rides being supposedly boring - no way dudes!!! I returned last week from my 6th time riding the exact same, almost perfectly flat ~400km gravel/road/cycle lane route and I enjoyed it immens...

Re: Surly 'Corner Bar' - what do we think???

Ha.. I googled the phrase, was kinda interested. I mean, rather interested :) A Reddit entomology thread came up. I hope I’m not falling into a well baited pedant trap here but….. Entomology is the scientific study of insects. Etymology is the study of the history and origin of words. Sorry, I coul...

Re: Better 20mm buckles for lomo seatpack

I've not seen a limo seatpack but, despite being a fan of their kit, I suspect that the swaying is due to them not using the same strap arrangement as the wildcat seatpack.
I've not seen any other packs that do it the same way as wildcat - maybe it's patented?

Back in the days when companies had receptionists, who - shock horror - answered the phone and put you through to the relevant person, I used to to deal with a company named "Wayne Kerr and Associates" The receptionist, however, has a very strong American accent, which meant that answering...

Re: Software for editing gpx files

If you are using a Garmin device to provide turn-by-turn instructions, you need to be wary of creating a route that exceeds the number of waypoints that your device supports, per route. For my Etrex 35, it's 40, so longer, or fiddlier, routes usually have to be split up. Name each route in sequence ...

I tried my hypercracker recently and it works with a geared bike when you get the chain onto the big sprocket, but not on the SS as you can't get enough torque to it..... In the field I would have to remove a pedal and find a bit of scaffold tube to go over the crank. Wasn't the amount of effort li...

Re: Old legs need Lower gears.

Thanks for all the advice. Im going with the 11 40 on the back option as the rest of my set up won't need upgraded. My chain is 118 link and according to online chain length calculator it should be ok as well. Maybe in the future i will upgrade to full grx one part at a time. Is it a new chain? If ...

Haven't had chance to try it yet, due to Covid/work restrictions. I'll post some pics, when I can. (Yes, I did consider GFunk brac...

Re: Downloading gpx files to Garmin etrex 22x

Do you have a pc/laptop,? If so, consider installing Garmin Basecamp. You can import the GPX file into that, organise routes into list etc then, with the Etrex plugged into a USB port, simply drag/drop the route(s) of your choice onto the Etrex I have an Etrex 35, and have been using this setup, for...

Ok, there was a lull in the rain, and I've popped down the shed.

R8000 GS rear mech - states 34T on the box
Fitted to my bike with an 11-40 cassette and a 50-34 chainset - NO Goat link.
B-screw dialled in pretty much all the way

Been working fine for a couple of years

Re: Old legs need Lower gears.

Whilst waiting for the rain to stop, I checked the spec of the derailleur - it has a capacity of 39T, and you need 16 + 29, so it would appear that a goat link is required.

I must have a slightly different setup
