Re: Travelling across Europe quickly - how?
A ferry is more polluting than an aircraft isn’t it? Recently read an article by Cunard saying that You have to question why organisers ban aircraft for their races but not ferries/ships to get to the races Looks like Eurostar is the best bet https://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/travel-info/travel-planni...

Has a very nice 10 minutes, earlier but have put it way, for now - until the weather becomes more predictable.

B&B touring is no less valid as bikepacking, because some folks do it in.more extreme way than jogging is no less valid because some bloke just ran the length of Africa.

Re: Hammock in the garden
I've got a hammock in the garden - it is indeed a lovely place to be on a sunny afternoon. I've put rings on the uprights of my covered deck to hang it from now, but it came with a stand of sorts: each end has two lengths of wood with an eye bolt through one end so they open out into an A-frame. Th...

Hammock in the garden
The idea of lazing in the hammock, at home, appeals to me. However, my garden has no trees, and there are no strong and suitably spaced fenceposts, either, so I was thinking that one of those free standing hammock frames might be worth a try. Has anybody done this, and have any advice? Length betwee...

One light for on and off road is a bit too much to ask for, as the beam patterns suited to each are very different. Maxx-d Vs Strada, for example. Exposure is a good choice though... Re: Recommend me a GPS
I have the garmin 830, I don't reccomend, it is crap in the wet, but otherwise excellent. Apparently the new 840 is supposed to be OK in the wet . Having come from a walking gps I highly recommend getting a bike one, at least with garmin, the direction turn by turn features are vaguely exciting. A ...

Like my cycle, I'm "bi" Grew up in the pre-internet world, and hadn't even seen a computer until after I left school. Have, however, spent most of my working life in software development, so very comfortable in the digital world. I'm equally at home fixing/making things from scratch with m...

Quite like a Diplomatico. Had a nice Plantation one that had Pineapple tree bark in it at some point. Would recommend. Generally I'd avoid the spiced stuff. Re: Sleep system for the side sleepers
Draughts aside (which is what puts me off quilts) the biggest issue that I find, with side sleeping, is lying on my arm and getting pins & needles. The solution that I've arrived at, is to cross my arms and hold opposite shoulders - a bit like Dracula, in his coffin - as it keeps things in a mor...

Knowing how satisfying it is, to build a bike from frame upwards, I can only imagine the sense of achievement that comes from doing the extra welding/painting/fettling involved in this build.
I can definitely imagine the smile on your face, when riding it.
Superb job, that man.

Re: Fitting a valve to a drybag
Just start the roll of the closure, say one turn, then with the bag upright, lean your weight on the top and you will find the air will be forced out. Once it's compressed, quickly pull up on the closure buckles and roll down a couple more turns. This ^^^ My riding buddy saw me do that, on a trip, ...

Just finished swapping the rim over, on my back wheel - cable-tied new rim alongside the old one, as per Stu's suggestion, and it was a lot easier than my previous method.
Cheers for the tip, Stu...

Re: I seem to be stuck for a wheel
Thanks for the replies chaps. All I've got to do now is learn how to lace a wheel. This could end badly. It might be easier and safer to look for a complete wheel. Align the new rim on top of the wheel and tape them together. Remove one spoke at a time from the wheel and place it into the appropria...
