Re: What should you have kept?
I've got every record I've ever bought .... now my daughter has my turntable in her room and was ecstatic to find Joy Division, Kennedys, Smiths, Cure etc in the loft :) She might not have been too chuffed had she discovered Chaotic Dischord or Demented arego  ;) I kept the Anti Nowhere Leagu...

Re: What should you have kept?
So we got a T5 instead, bigger, more comfortable, safer, quieter, more reliable, cheaper to run, better in all respects. Still want a T2 though for when we're going nowhere fast! Good call. On my 2nd T5 now .... takes us all over, quickly, reliably, comfortably, stylishly and reasonably economicall...

Re: What should you have kept?
I'd like to add my collection of 70's / early 80's punk singles to the list too. Never got rid of mine, not that I listen to them now, they sound far too tame. I've got every record I've ever bought .... now my daughter has my turntable in her room and was ecstatic to find Joy Division, Kennedys, S...

Go Outdoors have them pennies under £60 and I have one 3 miles from home. I'll go and have try for size there.

Re: FS: Bivvy Bags (Rab, Terra Nova)
Re: Rab Storm, certainly interested.... how is it size wise ?.... I'm a , er, larger fella, a little too large tbh, I'm not MASSIVE, 5'10" solidly built. I'm looking at an Alpkit Hunka XL for the extra space. I guess this is quite a bit smaller.

Re: Newbie looking for routes
I'm new too. Can't offer much advice, but I'd say get the maps out. Only you knows what you're 'good for' ... 30 , 50, 70, 100 miles a day. Look for bridleways and then google earth / ridewithgps and see if they actually exist on the ground. I've sorted 2 possible loops in Radnorshire / Rhayader doi...

Re: Bar Upgrade
Depends on what you ride..... wouldn't necessarily fit Jones bars to a 8" travel DH bike , but they feel good for me in all scenarios.

Re: Bar Upgrade
I usually ride on Jones full loop bars, IMO they're the most comfortable , multi position bars around and would have them on most bikes if I could afford them. So I'm used to the sweep. I tried Feegals and their not swept enough. I fitted Marys for bikepacking and they were close in postion to the J...

Re: Beginners kit.
I took advice from a friend who does long multiday event and knows his sh!t .... I seriously don't think I carried anything I didn't need othere than either Gilet, but I wouldn't have wanted to be without them either. The Banshee 200 tent is 2.5 kg ... and the rack isn't light. So a seatpack and lig...

Having dipped a toe in the water and found it ok ..... I need to start planning lighter kit. Our first excursion was laughable..... http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a15/martincorneuk/swiftpacked_zpsnosc2rw1.jpg I made (actually my mum did) a simple harness for the sleeping bag and clothes.... worked...

Re: which bike ....
My bikes:- favorite bike Jones Spaceframe/truss fork 29er, Jones loop bars, can be fat front, singlespeed (don't want to fit gears to the Jones ) .... this is the single most comfortable bike I've ever ridden. I LOVE this bike. This is the bike I'd prefer to bikepack on. But it's SS Nowt wrong with...

Cheers, did see this.... I have negotiated a VERY good price from Singular, just need a different headset and pretty much everything else should transfer from the Swift.Cheeky Monkey wrote:Nope

Re: which bike ....
Clearly the answer is to get another Jones, then you can have one with gears and one SS. And since you're buying in bulk, pop one in the basket for me too. Would love another one.... CBT had a diamond frame one at a very good price.. I'm closing in on a Singular Rooster at the moment.... jus...

Re: which bike ....
if i know the route is going to be hilly i just put a 20t on the back instead of the usual 18t gear . slower on the road but gets you up a few more degrees of incline haha and easier on the knees on the long bikepaking rides I use a 16 tooth, no wonder my knees don't like me  If I had a Jones...

Re: which bike ....
I think the SS / geared thing is a red herring ... some of the fasted people out there don't have gears  If trips are fairly short duration / single night then ride whatever you like. If they're longer then comfort will start to play a much bigger part ... which leads me to think the Jones mi...

which bike ....
Me:- overweight ( and it doesn't come off very easily any more ), 48, rubbish at climbing, 99% of the time I ride rigid SS, not much better at climbing on a geared bike .... I go to a lot of Singlespeed events, SSUK, NKSS (dutch), BeSSC (Belgians) , SSEC (Slovenia next year).... I usually come last....
