This promises to be a cracking event, I know Paul is working really hard to bring this together.
Given his experience having ridden many of the big gravel races in the states I imagine the event will be pretty dialed and will become a firm fixture in the calendar.

Re: GPS for long trip
Yep, I think Gaia is about £20, and a USB power block can be had for about £12-15 which will do a couple of charges of a mobile which in the UK is more than enough. I used one in tandem with a dynamo which came in handy on those long draggy Peruvian climbs for keeping things topped up. The key is us...

Re: GPS for long trip
A dedicated GPS is always a good way to go, but an smartphone with Gaia maps is always a very cheap option, throw in a portable recharger and you are laughing.

Re: Back to the Peak
Scattamah - oh yeah, in hindsight it was comical. I endured the wettest night I've spent in a bivvy bag, while Cass' tent leaked. On the return back to Parsley Hay I spotted a great stone building that would have been perfect. Less than 200m from where I slept  IanFitz - I'll keep my eyes peel...

Re: An evening in the Shropshire hils
Looking like another no show from me I'm afraid. I'm still struggling with my car, back in the garage again.
Anyone would think its a poor weather forecast putting me off ;-)
Have a great ride guy. Hopefully catch you on the trails soon.

My pleasure Ian.
Enjoyed riding the Peak 200, keen to have a crack at it before I head off again next year.

Fair play Scattamah for going with my original idea.
Waking up on Saturday morning, the rain was biblical here, I did think of you and whether you'd decided to set off.
Looks like my car saved me for a good old soaking

Re: Trans Cambrian Trail
Gents, woke up this morning to a massive pool of oil on the drive way :-bd Had to drop the car in to the garage this morning, but I don't think the prognosis is great, guessing a head gasket given i've been topping the coolant up a bit over the past few weeks. Could be in a few days, so may be strug...

Re: Rohloff speedhub
I'm currently in the rather exclusive two Rohloff club :geek: Whilst I really like the Rohloff, just getting one for the sake of it is probably an excessive expenditure :o I'd say for long distance bike packing trips, and for this I'm talking multi month rather than over night trips I would say in m...

Re: With the onset of winter ...
Well its not been a bad summer really. Coming back from travelling I realised quite early on that I didn't have much motivation for racing, and just focussed on riding in different locations and enjoying myself. It certainly seems to have worked  Bristol Bikefest Etape De Yorkshire Way of the ...

Re: Anyone used one of these? (Ground Effects Bodybag)
I've just bought one myself. Mainly for some plans next year that will involve a point to point rides where I know I will be taking another flight at the other. Cass Gilbert uses one for international air travel and just packs it out with cardboard. Means you don't have the stress of finding a suita...

I guess we could play it by ear, and see what the weather is doing.
My preference would be to have a night out on a hill somewhere, but lets see nearer the time ;-)

Re: Trans Cambrian Trail
Just took a quick peak at train times for Fri 6th November:
Looks like the following would be the last train out of Shrewsbury we could get:
18:25 Shrewsbury [SHR]
19:15 Knighton [KNI]
How would that work for you Scattamah?

Not around this weekend Greg, otherwise I'd have been keen to get a ride in with you.
Be interested to hear about this new mythical route ;-)
Been playing around with a few ideas myself but it sounds like yours are much further toward coming to fruition.

Great. Lets aim for the 7/8 provisionally then?
Bothy wise good to have a couple of options depending on conditions and how keen we are on the day.
Looking forward to sharing the trails with you guys, and anyone else that fancies joining us!
Cheers
