Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

It takes time for a dog to learn how to pull, basically you are asking them to do something you have trained out of them - pull on a lead- confusing to say the least. They have to get used to the idea that they are up front but you are their leader, you are their to protect them and are with them al...

Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

Hi Tom I use an artic wolf bungee lead connected around the headtube, then have a bikejor arm as this keep the bungee away from the front wheel. https://hooner.co.uk/shop/scooter-and-bikejor/attachments/bike-scooter-springer I have a rufferwear pannier set, which I use when walking - but it's not a ...

Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

Hmmm, after posting that i think I am inclined to go with a small ruck sack and lose the panniers - just not happy with them on any rough terrain. I think I will lose the carradice saddle bag and use the salsa minimalist rack with a cannoe bag on top.

Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

This is the current thought process in set-up. I will replace the water bottles with larger containers, as there needs to be enough each day for 2 people. As I cant use a bar bag of any type, due to the bungee lead being connected to the fork stem. I have reverted to carradice front panniers (on the...

Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

Haha, I think Sabre will give me loads of reassurance! However, he is a complete coward and whilst he will give a great growl, he then runs behind my legs and sticks his head round to see if anything scary is still there. A bloody chiwawa scared him the other day.

Re: Coast to Coast Bikejor style

We were getting the mileage up and have been around 110 km a week, however, last week we got asked to help with tracking a lost dog. The tracking was successful and we found the dog, which was excellent. The weather has now changed so looks like we will be moving to very early to late training. I am...

Coast to Coast Bikejor style

Hi all, I have not posted on here for sometime as other things in my life have been more important than riding and adventures. I have regularly read some of you journeys, often with jealousy. However, life is starting to get back on track and I am looking forward to a new adventure; this will be a c...

Re: GPS Navigation

I have just gone from an 705 edge to the etrex 30x and I am struggling. I have used Edges for around 7 years and the etrex is going against all my instincts of using a GPS unit. I have recently started using an Etrex also coming from an Edge 705. I have not found the way to start and stop (or pause)...

Re: Meths Stove and real cooking

I have the afterburner which is great for solo trips. If I am touring then the trangia is taken, purely as the pots and pans come in a set. The trangia has enough capacity of meths to run for a seriously long time. I am happy using it to cook for 2 people. After that the pans are too small. Personal...

I did wonder about that, but I thought they were lithium only batteries. Can you get those rechargeable?

Re: Recharging from a Dyno

Thanks Ian, my concern with the external USB through the 30x, is the ewerk. As I have no cache battery with it, apparently if the dyno stops sending charge, the unit apparently tries to shut down  . I thought the battery might be a cheap work around.

Thanks for that, I was really looking for one with 2xAA battery case. It doesn't look as though there is an issue with the units and the ewerk, so I start looking

Recharging from a Dyno

My Garmin 705 has finally died, which I have loved as I could charge the unit on the go through my SP-dyno. This is done via a USB-E-werk. Although I could have gone for a Garmin Touring (for the internal battery) I have opted for Etrex 30x - which takes AA batteries. I would prefer to keep an addit...

Re: B and M Lumotec experience?

I got the B&M c. 2years ago and had the Cache battery failure. It was all covered by B&M, the 'newer' version is much better built. The lights are on my audax bike. Would I use these for bikepacking - absolutely NO! The beam is amazing for road use, being wide and elongated - but I don't fee...

Re: Dynamo rim choice....

I have had a few of wheels built by Spa and the wheel builder (Dave) is excellent. I have my Dynos laced to a Rigida Sputnik - cheap and a little on the heavyside, but it can take some punishment!! They are not a disc specific rim, but are fine for MTBing and Touring - I wanted versatility. I am usi...

I contacted them in June and this was the reply I had: I'm sorry but we don't ship to the UK. It is a part our agreement with our British partner, Criterion sleeping bags. Cumulus will enter the British market next year. You can buy our products in the following stores, with the UK delivery: http://...

Re: Which GPS?

I used to use a cadence sensor when I was doing road TT, it was a good training aid.

Is there any benefit for off-road? Having just come back off the trails tonight, there is no way a Garmin sensor would have survived.

Re: Which GPS?

I have a Garmin 605, which is a similar creature to the Tourer. To be fair all the GPS units are pretty good nowadays, all depends on what feature you are prioritising. My 605 also has the route generator, which can be useful, but never is the quickest way to get from A to B. Benefits are the charge...

Re: Dirty Reiver: 200k UK Gravel event

A bit pricey, but I have gone with it. I need to get my ass into gear, as having had to pull out of BB200 with a back injury - my motivation has gone to zero!

Being in Yorkshire it's not too far for me and won't require much planning!

Re: Dynamo wheels - kept for best?

When I thought my issue was the dyno, I asked the same question. The reply was that in the first 2 years (the warranty) the should be sent back to the retailer. After the 2 years I believe ison have a repair or replacement service.

Re: Dynamo wheels - kept for best?

You need to check to see if there is a current coming out of the dyno. I connected both to a friends set up and it was just a process of elimination. There are tools that a sparky has that can check if anything is coming out of the dyno, but it's above my simplistic understanding.

Re: Dynamo wheels - kept for best?

Hi, check the lights as well. My lights died and I thought it was the sp dyno, but it was the lights. The cache battery had gone in the lights, is pretty much useless.
