Re: Today's Run
Didn't go big on Tuesday, 3cm of snow put me off :)
It's nearly all gone, trails are drying, Saturday is sort of pencilled in now.

Re: Today's Run
I had snow for my ride yesterday, that was unexpected! Ran with a workmate and her dog today. 2 hours very easy. Talking about the restructuring that is planned. Agreeing that it's time to jump ship. Enjoying the sunshine. Watching a dog run around without a care in the world. It was a good run. Not...

Re: When did tents become boring?
Isn’t it just the way of things? It’s the same as cars and bicycles. There’s a period of experimentation before everyone discovers the same basic designs are ‘best’. That might be it. Maybe we've all lived through the golden age of tent design and are now seeing the results  3 second tents yo...

Re: What happened to 24 hour racing?
I love the lapped aspect of it - but I am an recovering track rider.... The whole joy to riding the same lap for 24 hours is that you can get really, really, really good at riding that lap using as little energy and going faster. Usually through braking less as uggh that means I have to move my fing...

Thanks, they are both on the "gallery" in the stairwell printed A3 :)
First one came from a very low res camera, an old Pentax. But I spent about 20mins shooting every runner as they passed the same spot as I knew exactly what I wanted.

Re: What happened to 24 hour racing?
Matt will jump in at some stage, will be interesting to see his view from one of the core racers from a few years ago. Used to be my thing, to the point that they were often the point of the whole year, and I raced on a team focused on doing nothing but these events with Rob Lee (as did Matt, but di...

Re: Today's Run
Raced today - well I say raced... I attempted to. 4th birthday of child today, fun day planned, brought presents to play with as we split our start times,.... but she vomited twice on the 50mins car journey to the race over her new toy and slippers (still played with them the trooper that she is). A...

Nice shot John. Always ignore the BS of never shoot into the sun. "Rules" are there to be broken. Two of my favourite shots both break that rule. 2015 at some point: https://live.staticflickr.com/450/20271166336_a8394c9f27_c.jpg Sunset Runner by Greg.May , on Flickr 2019 at some point, really, reall...

Re: Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?
You can get N/W SS cogs if you want to resolve that issue. Only time I’ve ever had chain leave the cog has been with flexible (cheap) cogs. Since using WI free wheels or Surly cogs I’ve had no issues . Nothing quite like the groin stem interface after a chain popping on a SS whilst climbing to brigh...

Re: Today's Run
Prepping for a big run on Tuesday (65km ish) so finishing off with some final easy runs. Ran to the GPs to get second dose, then ran for another 1hour 30. Covered a "flat" 470m of vertical with a nice steady HR all the way round. Felt great. A few more easy runs to do. A race on Sunday (<1 hour orie...

Re: Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?
Superstar do 110 BCD thick thin rings as do spa cycles. Both work well. Greg how do you deal with chain tension on a single speed with an oval ring. The surly ring on my straggler is ever so slightly oval and it makes chain tensioning a pia..... What Sean said below. Tension set at the tight spot -...

There is only a minor change in chain length. We used to use them on track bikes for a while.voodoo_simon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 6:26 pm
I once suggested an oval ring on my SS bike a few years ago and everyone laughed at me in the bike shop saying it couldn’t be done but good to hear it can![]()

Re: Oval rings. Absolute Black or Absolute B*ll*cks?
My last PhD student did her thesis on oval rings - short version, they do lots of things, they do convey some benefit in reducing peak loads on the muscles, but they involve an adaptation period to do so. FWIW, all 4 of my MTBs have oval rings - and have for about 5 years. Prior to that, all my CX b...

It would appear that once people have had the vaccine they think that's it over and back to normal and the rules no longer apply to them. Not all of us Sean. That may be due to the lack of understanding of the difference between lowering the chance of becoming drastically ill yourself, though still...

My old Crux developed a death creak at one point. It was the weld at the BB failing between it and the downtube.

Re: Custome Frame Bag - Full Suspension
I've had one for my last 3 Spearfish - made my Beth at Wildcat - it's great, lasted well. But only used when I want to have no weight on my bars, more technical long rides. Used in conjunction with a dropper seatpack (Porcelain Rocket) and a pair of feed bags, it makes for an acceptable setup. Agree...

A race...what hell on earth is this! First orienteering race of the year. 1 hour score event around Lancaster Uni and surrounds. Cleared all the controls. Made quite a few errors, mostly related to not being 100% in the map, ran 9.5km in 52mins. Then, wife ran round faster :) Went to the beach with ...

LAter in the day run, wife was off swimming in cold water for the morning and we had child herding in the afternoon. Piecing together the final bits of a BIG round I want to do locally. Wanted to see if I could link a section between two crags with a very direct route. Turns out I can, and it's grea...

Re: Today's Run
That sounds like quite fun day out :) ~~ Ran home from work. To make it interesting I tried to keep to as straight a line as I could from the school to the door whilst staying on footpath/bridleway predominantly. Short version, it was sort of fun, bit too much farmland for my liking. But I did get t...

Re: Today's Run
sub standard day at work. Then my wife ruins my run by giving some nonsense about bonking while cycling home and I need to pick the kid up from nursery. Bah. It was even sunny.
25 mins, no idea how far, had just warmed up for a hill session and had to turn and run back to the car.
