Re: Tour Divide Musings

Two days of rain straight on the first two days - no issues waterproof wise. Sure, it's not a tri-laminate level of protection - but it is waterproof.

FTFY.

Please don't lump us all in the same heap. We're not all created equally.

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Di2 was not in my budget - also, habitual SRAM user. I did have the eTap chat with another rider one day, pros and cons weigh up still going on in my head. The advantage of the Blipboxes are very evident to me.

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Something to be said for Di2 I guess... though that comes with its own potential set of problems. I notice that the jacket you took is just classed as "shower proof". Were you not overly concerned about it not being able to handle more severe rain? The Minimus is hardly showerproof! It's ...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Spare dyno cable - not hub :) Nanopuff is a thermal layer - Featherlight ( https://www.montane.co.uk/en/men/clothing/windproof/featherlite-7-jacket ) is a very light windproof layer, no insulation. One pair of shorts is fine - you just clean yourself daily and use cream - I had no saddle sore issues...

Sounds about right. On the plus side, crashing on a track, not that painful really. They are relatively soft.

I used to race at Calshot - watch your head on the ceiling. I bloody well hate that place. Sketchy track at best to race on!

Re: New Specialized Bike Packing Bags

Poor copies of what is available to be fair. I'd be more tempted by the Blackburn kit than these offerings. Also, the subtle gimp black shine of the bags does nothing for me.

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Again, you need to ask yourself:

a) is this the time I really want to be dealing with a fixed wheel bike
b) is it really worth it.

Re: Virtual Cycling Apps

Only excuses you make are to yourself. No one needs to ride a bike, let alone indoors.

Speaking as an ex track cyclist BTW. Wasted a lot of my life doing so.

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Greg, did you get to the bottom of why the hub locked up? I'm not familiar with the Pro4 but if it's anything like the Pro2 I can only think that one or more of the pawls broke and jammed between the two parts of the freehub - there's not a lot in there to go wrong. The TD must put a hell of a lot ...

Re: Tour Divide Musings

Spot placement: Many riders don't wear packs - me included - so putting a SPOT there , not possible. I used to ride with mine in the zipped section of my centre rear pocket - but figured, after much faffing - that it was even more awkward to press the bad button if I needed to. Hence, I placed mine ...

Re: Tour Divide 2016

That was some fluid intake Greg. Doubt I could get that much down me in one go. And my middle aged bladder would have me stopping every 10 minutes for the next 30 miles! I do recall having four pints of coca-cola in Hartsel. Felt rough till well after Del Norte. It's something I've practiced for ye...

Re: Tour Divide 2016

I think I managed my input/output a little better than most - one of the factors in this may be the amount of meat I ate as a practical vegetarian (only tend to eat meat when out with friends or at other peoples houses). This definitely added a whole chunk of extra calories into my normal diet day t...

Re: Tour Divide 2016

Greg, I assume that's a loss of 1.3Kg of fat since there's no significant change in overall weight and you put on roughly the same mass of muscle. How do those figures work out as percentages and are they significant changes? I would have thought that since you felt you were close to optimum pre-ra...

Re: Tour Divide 2016

Did a quick science nerd moment and took a post Divide DXA scan to look at the impact of the race on my body composition - i've data for the past 2 years as comparison - last one 3 days before flying out for the race. Error of 2 weeks since race finish and some replenishing, so i'd expect some incre...
