Re: Taking bikes to the USA and problems with the TSA

Have done it 5 times, never had any issue with TSA etc.

Famously did have my bike smashed by baggage handlers, but that was outbound, so was likely the clowns in the UK anyway.

Re: Fat Fighters '24. The year for deflation!

Good effort, Richard! Thanks. It's hard going, but I think what makes the biggest difference to my consistency is having a target event. I don't want to spend a bunch of money / time to go to an event without having got myself into the condition necessary to actually complete it. Might not seem a l...

Re: The post man's been ...

Bought this to use under my quilt as it gets quite sticky when it's hot... but I hadn't really looked too closely at the weight of it, so now I'm thinking I'll just go back to the old ultralight silk sheet method. https://s20.directupload.net/images/240419/gxfvqju2.jpg Ho hum, bit of a waste of mone...

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

My Oxford clamp (hinged rather than double clamped) has not budged since I attached it three years ago, even shimmed with bar tape to fit my small diameter handlebar. Light/GPS mounted to a single bar extender. https://www.oxfordproducts.com/bicycle/brands/oxford/handlebars/handlebar_extender_alloy...

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

Anyone know where I might be able to get high quality clamps like these?

I appreciate there's a million of them on ebay etc, but I've also snapped a number of them, so I know just how sh*t most of them are.

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

The Blackburn Outpost standard front roll bag is very long and thin. I'll measure mine when I get home. Thanks, I'll see if I can find it online. Been trying a Pronghorn here....very stable, just like it's harder-backed cousin that I used to run. Reminds me of a Wildcat harness. I like the look of ...

Re: Spain and the £97 rule

Would definitely have at least one credit card, if only for the protections you get against fraud / companies screwing you over.

Set a direct debit to pay it off in full and it's not realistically different to paying from your bank (you're not paying any interest).

Yeah... body being very strange this week. Really not sure what's going on.

I don't want to, but I might need to cut a few more calories to make it do something different.

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

Another more DIY thing I've tried with some success is fixing a drj0n Double Trouble Triple to bar extensions, either full aero bars or mini ones as (really badly) pictured here. That works well to hold a roll up away from the wheel, and obviously doubles up as alternative hand position too, but th...

Re: New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

I do like the idea of those rack / bar options as obviously you can have them sit higher. I don't really have the time to come up with something myself though.

The JTR looks interesting, but is a little industrial for my purposes.

Should get Stu to knock something up in carbon!

I must admit, I'm tempted to try and work out a bikepacking trip for the Spain one.

Generally just trying to keep as much weight off the front as possible. More weigh, more grip  Good call. I'll order a pizza! If you have the space under your stem, one of these will support the bottom of the harness and will help keep it away from the head tube and front wheel - https:...

Bleh, that Pronghorn is a spicy price, but it might just be what I'm after.

Edit - This one also seems long, but also on the heavier side.

New Front Harness / Longer Bag?

Hi all. I've got a couple of a fairly long trips coming up (7-10 days) and I've realised that my old front bag setup isn't really going to work out (Wildcat Lion / Exped Blue). I've noticed that I'm getting a decent amount of rub on my front wheel when descending, and whilst I don't think it's going...

Bizarrely I'm up 2kg over the last two days. No obvious intake reasons, can only assume hormonal oddness.

Stupid bodies.

Re: Fat Fighters '24. The year for deflation!

Maybe worth reframing?

I might have cared about being slim for looks when I was a kid, but I've long since accepted I'm going to look like garbage at any sort of healthy weight anyway.

I lose weight for health, longevity (I hope) and performance, every kg helps.
