Getting drunk and being fed vs tussock deathmarches in the pouring rain? Is there a signup sheet?

Re: Tyre Assistance... Dorset Gravel Dash
Almost certainly, definitely didn't see anyone else wearing one. Silver GT, red camelbak. ...and yeah, the views were utterly incredible. Stopping for massive garlic bread (they basically cut a bloomer in half and covered it with cheese, bacon and garlic butter) at the pub half way was another high ...

Cheers, but I've just bought mjsmart's one as sort of a mid level option and grabbed one of those ridiculously light Cumulus ones for when I'm feeling suicidal.

Re: Tyre Assistance... Dorset Gravel Dash
Got through the ride just fine. ...well, technically I crashed once, but that wasn't the fault of the tyres, that was the fault of following the line of a fat bike and realising too late that a serious rut for me was nothing to him. I also wore my Bear Bones shirt with pride, and talked you al...

Bollocks to any sort of serious output in 40c heat. I'd be lucky to survive the flats, let alone the hills.

I'm pleased to see how many options there are for food etc. In Wales I always have to go overkill with the amount of food and caffeine I carry.

Re: Race / Summer Sleeping Bag
My partner and I have both got Hanger 18 480gm bags - https://www.h18orr.com/products/down-sleeping-bag I've slept OK (not great) in mine in a merino base layer and woke to find frost in the ground and fresh snow on the tops when camping in the lakes. My partner's completely nesh though so is selli...

Re: Race / Summer Sleeping Bag
Richard, if you really want a 'just in case' bag for a few hours kip or something that will work okay in summer, have a look at the Cumulus Magic 125. This one is looking like a particularly good deal: http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/sleeping-bags/down-sleeping-bags/magic-125-large?gid...

Yeah, with, sorry.
...and yeah, the mat is probably the one place I wouldn't compromise. I'm happy to carry a bit more weight there.

Re: Race / Summer Sleeping Bag
Out of interest, how do quilts generally get used by bivi bags, or don't they?
Plus, of course those events that stipulate you must carry at least something.
As I said, emergency use only, so if I absolutely have to stop because I'm feeling like crap.GregMay wrote:Then why bring a bag?

Re: Race / Summer Sleeping Bag
I struggle to sleep anyway, so not sleeping in a thin summer bag is much the same as not sleeping in a cosy winter bag.
But again, this is for summer use or for emergencies only. Warmth isn't going to be too much of an issue.

Race / Summer Sleeping Bag
I'm looking for something ultralight for racing purposes (essentially for when I have to have one, but don't actually plan on stopping) or for use in the summer. So far I've found these which seem like they might be suitable: 265g - PHD Elite Racer - http://www.phdesigns.co.uk/elite-racer-down-sleep...

520 can be used for following routes no?

On topic... I bought a 1000. It's crap. For anything long distance the etrex is a no brainer because the battery life is awful on the 1000.

Re: "Audax chat" thread
I consider myself pretty damn fit, but some of these rides seem freakishly difficult to me. I guess the key is going without sleep as much as possible, but screw doing that on roads. Scary enough doing it on trails.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to keep an eye out for sales and deals. There's been some amazing bikes on offer for next to nothing recently.
