Re: Garmin advice
Sorry for the hijack, I've just bought myself an Etrex 20. Does anyone have any recommendations on a decent mount? I'd like one that's adjustable around 90* as I've not yet decided if I'll mount it on the bars or on the stem itself. I've heard people aren't happy with the cable tie affair, but can't...

Me, Mrs Ootini and Mini-Ootini may be up for this. I'll have to double check though.
What's the deal? Ride from Dolgellau to Barmouth, OD on ice cream, then back down the Mawddach trail to Graig Wen campsite?

Re: Adventure/Gravel/Cyclocross bike choices for bikepacking
I notice that no one has mentioned the Sonder Camino or the Genesis Vagabond as yet... Any reason for this? They were the two bikes I was originally looking at when I was considering an "adventure" bike.

Can you fold / stitch Tyvek in to a bathtub shape? Or is Tyvek flat only?
Re: Canals
I've done some rooting around, and from Shari can tell the route is mostly paved with some gravelly bits at worst. It's 60 miles from llangollen to Chester. So I'm thinking a leisurely afternoon / bivvy / morning and we're done.

Fab, thanks
I'll have to check all of my GPX files now, find out whether they're tracks or routes.

Re: Which maps on an Etrex?
I *think* I'll basically continue using BikeHike to plot my routes etc, then save the route out as a GPX file and throw it on the Etrex Remember, whatever you produce on bikehike - save it as a 'track' before downloading it. On Mac, I simply save files to the desktop then drag them across to the gp...

Re: Which maps on an Etrex?
Is it also easy enough to add maps and tracks to an Etrex unit without needing to use Basecamp? can I just drag and drop using it as a storage device?

Re: Which maps on an Etrex?
I *think* I'll basically continue using BikeHike to plot my routes etc, then save the route out as a GPX file and throw it on the Etrex, so I won't be planning or plotting routes on the unit itself. So it's just a case of map type and resolution I'll like when viewing and following the route. Cheers...

Re: Which maps on an Etrex?
You can have both - 1:50k OS maps on the card, OSM on the internal memory. Easy enough to switch between them. Ah OK, I didn't realise. I thought you could only have a single set of maps or map installed at any one time. I'm currently downloading something called OpenFietsMap_lite now which apparen...

Re: Which maps on an Etrex?
Without sounding daft, is 1:50 enough resolution? Wouldn't 1:25 be better considering most of the routes are off road? Sorry if that's a silly question, I'm new to mapping in general
Also I guess one reason I like the OSM maps is things like Cycle routes being highlighted etc.

Which maps on an Etrex?
Hey, I've just got myself an Etrex 30. I'd like to pop on it some custom UK maps but I'm really new to this and not sure what kind of map I'd want, how much they cost, or really how to do it? Ideally I'd like something similar to the OSM maps that I use when creating routes on BikeHike. Is this an e...

Re: [FS] Seatbag RePack X2 Large
I'm pretty sure it's the same seatpack I bought from Piotr last week, in which case it's sold (and very nice). However, there's always a chance Piotr has two of them, so I'm not 100% certain, just 99% certain it's sold.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2016.
12/12 again, at Llandegla forest. Last Saturday. I'd so wanted to join you on the Winter Bivvy but couldn't spare the time - getting ready for builders - so had another local quickie. Left home in the dark and rain for the 15 miles or so to Llandegla. Pitched up and had a noisy nights sleep, what w...
Canals
Anyone made up any "canal tow path" specific routes? I'm just curious as to how "unbroken" the tow paths may be. I'm trying to plan a two day route for me, the Mrs and sprog in his trailer, which means mostly paved, and mostly flat. I was thinking of a 60 mile route from Llangoll...

I bought a Vango Ark 200 from GoOutdoors. No the lightest bit of kit in the world, although we have taken it on bikepacking trips before now, but cheap and does the job. £60 if I recall.

Re: Films - what would you like to see?
Just stumbled across this 'bikepacking film'. After watching, it appears to actually be nothing to do with bikepacking and is simply a thinly disguised advert with additional non-descript music and just a little too much 'perfect'. https://www.facebook.com/Mpora/videos/10153892094987854/ Yeah I saw...

Re: Films - what would you like to see?
Interesting you should post this. I've got an idea for a narrative based bikepacking film that would tell the story of trying to complete a certain route in under 24 hours. Would mainly have no speech and is inspired by a particular piece of music. Which I find very evocative it has a chilled build...

Re: WTD: Handlebar harness
Best advice ever. To be fair though, this is all because she's got a new bike on the way (Marin Wildcat WFG) and I was going to buy a Genesis Vagabond but decided against it, so I've got loads of "bike" brownie points in the bank.Artie Fufkin wrote: Tread carefully with the OH though.

Re: Films - what would you like to see?
One thing I've noticed is usually lacking in these sort of productions (and I completely understand why) is the soundtrack. Bikepacking films usually involve breathtaking scenery, huge vistas etc... Now think about Holywood, bug budget productions that share those aesthetics and the one thing you'll...
