Re: "Audax chat" thread
Yep - bike is all set. Will load up the GPX that MJB made this weekend. Will do a 100km tomorrow then taper next week. That SimonP and Marcus are there is reassuring. We all made it around Pendle fine, and speaking to Andy C at the end of Heartbeat400, he was saying that MilleP is easier - "sam...

It did strike me he missed an epic chance to draw a huge GPX dick on France.

Re: Garmin Edge 520, 810 or neither?
I love my 520 for short events. There's enough space for most of Yorkshire / Lancs, and you can top the battery up off a lipstick sized power bank whenever you stop. I've done 24hour events with it.
For anything bigger, the Etrex 30 is great. It just works.

Re: "Audax chat" thread
I've had a really dodgy gut this last week, so I'm taking this one easy - rather than ride through or kip on the village hall floor at the turn, I've booked in to Severn View services. I'll have a shower, a couple of hours kip, and there will be a travel lodge breakfast box waiting for me. £35 of pu...

Re: Road bike advice, upgrade or replace?
That was why I got the do it all bike - I could only afford 1. Sadly, the only thing it could conceivably do well - intercontinental loaded bike packing on dreadful roads - was something I'll not get to do for ages. I've had that bike for 8 years now, done 25,000km on it, and never loved it. I guess...

Re: Road bike advice, upgrade or replace?
I'll offer some dissenting advice. Screw discs for road bikes - anything that makes a road bike heavier has to be avoided. I don't really mean it, but ask yourself why you want a road bike. I find it easier expressed in terms of cars, even though I'm no petrol head. It you want a Sunday morning hoon...

Re: "Audax chat" thread
I was at BB200 - was with Stu C up front when my Chupacabra took a hu-uuge nail that went in one side and out of the rim :( 50km ride back on road was depressing. Hope to be back this year, quick trigger finger on the entry permitting.
I very much enjoyed the copious tea and toast at the start :)

Just part of the lovely pre ride letter from JayP for this weekend's 600, that included a link to the GPX. It starts from his house, costs £10 to enter, and he's not kidding about food and drink! . Been reading some accounts from the Bryan Chapman at the weekend. This happened in 2011... https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=43334.msg943411#msg943411, same thing happened to someone this time round too apparently! The exploits of "McNasty" fill me with similar joy: http://www.owen...

Re: Talk to me about B+
I don't understand what Dr Howard meant when he stated that, “In scientific terms there was no difference whatsoever… but in practical terms the 29er was faster.” No mathematical difference from the statistical analysis software – what does that mean, other than they wasted a lot of money on all th...

Re: "Audax chat" thread
Next up for me is Severn Across. Accommodation booked at the start and at Severn View in case I need a kip (currently £39). Not looking to set any records on this as I want to keep the miles up in June in prep for Mille Pennines.
Anyone else going to be there?

Heartbeat 400 was fun. It took me 199km to realise that it was in reference to the Nick Berry police saga. Such a good route, there were no horrid bits. Wholeheartedly recommended.

Re: "Audax chat" thread
Quite a few people just use silk liners or a space blanket in case they get the dozies. I ran out of steam at 3.30am on a welsh 600 in October a few years back. Fell asleep on a dual carriageway and only woke when I hit the central reservation and saw the mini-grupetto that had formed disappearing o...

Re: "Audax chat" thread
200 done and dont feel so bad, although felt like death yesterday night. Should be up for the Old 240 later in the year. For some reason a 400 sounds harder than a 600. If its a Chris route, it'll have hills, but plenty of pub stops Old 240 was a funny one. Saw some faces from the previous Pendle 6...

I have a pair of the 710mm Jones loops bars in my shed. I was hoping for £90 posted. I don't have a pic of them to hand, but they looked like this on my Stache. https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/10676271_10101459735310900_8322508558674352531_n.jpg?oh=f700c14ea39b8231add0aab7...

Having DNFed with a mechanical, you've now succeeded in making me want to have another crack at that route, even though I have a pass from MsMekon for October.
Hmmm.
