Re: Winter bikepacking trousers

RAB Cinder, but they ain't cheap. Thanks for the suggestion, however I saw a pair of those in Glasgow. The ankle is too narrow so seems it would be difficult to fit over boots. Also for hip width the length seems short, so when pedalling could lift above boots (even their web pictures of the trouse...

Winter bikepacking trousers

I’m looking for some soft shell winter trousers that I can use for bikepacking. The closest I’ve found to what I want is the Montane soft shell trousers that you can tighten around boots at the ankle. I want similar but in a cycling cut and materials in the right places. I’ve got road winter bib tig...

Wild camping / camping near Armadale Isle of Skye ?

Hi, Just done most of Hebridean way and now crossing Isle of Skye The only problem I’m having is to plan on catching the ferry at Armadale early in the morning. I fancied a paid campsite the day before I leave but there appears none close enough to enable catching the early morning ferry. I was look...

Re: Glasgow central to Oban bike reservation confusion?

I have now sorted it and this is a caution to anyone booking tickets from Glasgow to Oban I booked online from Glasgow to Oban online So the system only gave me the option to book from Glasgow - central to Oban. I follow the booking as recommended and book (with bike reservation). This was my mistak...

Re: Glasgow central to Oban bike reservation confusion?

The trains to Oban from Glasgow go from Queen Street not Central. It’s about a ten minute walk between the two. Which station is Dalmuir? I’ve a feeling it’s the first one out of Queen Street I’ve read that the trains for Oban leave from a queen street and just checked my ticket and it does say que...

Hebridean Way advise please

Hi, Planning a bikepacking trip doing the Hebridean Way at the start of April this year. I’m after travel advice and/or gear advice that I might not have considered. Not done a trip this long before so any tips would be most useful. Where to stop and camp, maybe good youth hostel type places/B&B...

Re: Aggression from others spoil your ride?

C'mon, which pub? I'm sure many of us will be visiting in the future, and we need to avoid it. APF Or on the next WRT the lonely hearts club could swing by and lock 15 bikes to his pole!! I tried to secure my bike to one the buildings scaffold poles that was around most of the pub. Obviously ...

Couldn't find the ride but recall the red nosed elderly flosser well... Might not have been Wales but somewhere remote and in need of business nonetheless. Chap seemed to be a farmer. Aggression from others spoil your ride?

I understand that there is an ever growing dislike of cyclists in society. I’m finding people are getting so angry of cyclists even if they don’t know why, that they are feeling empowered to express this dislike openly. I was bikepacking this week and stopped for lunch in Dolgellau. They have a grea...

Sadly, It finally broke

Went camping at the Hafod Dywyll campsite two days ago whilst bikepacking. Raining and windy and it got worse dur8ng the night. Re: Hooded waterproof jacket

Going to be controversial, as I will suggest my bikepacking jacket that I use.

Softer than a short shell and waterproof, able to vent and wear all day.
Fantastic jacket. Love mine

Re: Bikepacking events, but not hardcore?

Don’t want to sound flippant but you could always organise one yourself. Just pick a meeting point and a route and invite people over one weekend. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just tell people you’re riding from place A, to which pub/cafe etc and you’re away I don’t want to get into it too much, but I...

However, what puts me off as they all seem to be on the ‘hardship’ side. You know, lots of suffering or type 2 fun. Which events in particular seem like this? I'm having a hard time to think of many. Most to be honest, the way they appear to me, is they are sleep in a ditch, hike a bike, stop being...

Re: Bikepacking events, but not hardcore?

In the UK? Aside from WRT.. not many but Pannier put on some group tours, although you will pay more than an event entry fee you'll get way better food and coffee along the way by the look of it. The Distance event maybe, or the Racing Collective events seem to have a good social element. Yes UK. B...

Re: Paramo Ostro and Ostro light - experiences?

I do like a windproof in the hills and more so nowadays just when out and about. Paramo are discounting both of these. Has anyone got much experience to share? In truth they will probably get more wear in the hills / walking than on a bike, though might get used for both. TIA 😎 Ostro: https://www.p...
