Re: SE (Chilterns) Winter Bivy - 10/11 Dec

This all sounds great. food order placed. Think I might need a warmer sleeping bag! I did a dry January this year, (from Jan 4th as my wife had over catered for new year and I had to finish the cider....) and I'm still going. Probably best if I don't re-start on this ride, otherwise I'll be i...

Re: Classic bikes

Agreed, some very nice bikes shown. The bike in my first picture is a Muddy Fox Sorcerer. given to me by its original owner after it had sat unused for many years. It's tange prestige tubing and has some lovely touches like a paw print 'embossed' detail in the seat tube cluster and diamond detailing...

This one tends to get used for mixed on road and gentle off road riding And now has some compass tyres on it... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v637/westywagen/20150716_114230_zpsc2enss5j.jpg aithough it has been in proper off-road mode before (but still with moustache bars) http://img.photobucket...

new bike carrier (slightly O/T)

So I bought myself a new bike carrier this weekend.... The weekend that coincides with my step-daughter going off to York Uni. The two facts are not unrelated. My wife was driving her up there, and wanted to stay over, but she couldn't find a hotel to stay in for under £150 (prices up fro the start ...

Re: 'alt' bar advice.

I'm an alt bar convert! I run nitto moustache bars on my road bikes (if a 1963 Moulton and late 80's muddy roadifed mtb count as road bikes). I've recently replaced the on one Mary's on the proper mtb with Jones loops. Interesting comment about the Ergon grips designed for back swept bars. I use erg...

Re: anyone on a jones+

Interesting question and answers. I've only ridden a Jones+ briefly a couple of times on borrowed bikes and I have to say it's one of the few bikes that just felt right straight away. From my brief tests I'd happily ride one a long way for a long time, and possibly have it as my only bike. My Genesi...

Re: The post man's been ...

A pair of black Jones loop bars and some looong extra chunky esi grips for said bars..

My reward for spending 65 hours putting the fence up (I'd like to thank the house's previous occupant for leaving me 3ft cubes of concrete around the existing 2 inch square fence posts!!)

Re: Gel gloves or other shock absorber

With knackered knuckles on my left hand from an old sporting injury l struggled for years with achy and tingly fingers, which was bad enough to make me consider suspension, however I didnt succumb to the lure of the boing. Bigger volume tyres, run at lower pressures and ESI extra chunky grips have t...

Re: Anyone read Bicycle Quarterly?

Annoyingly my calipers are with a friend, so I'll get them back and do a proper measure later this week, but in the interim measuring my trusty g clamp (!) That was placed snugly around the tyre gives a measurement of: 50mm at the widest point of the tyre's width and 50 mm from outside edge of rim f...

thanks both. I'll check the measurement when home this evening. I keep on meaning to. I receive compass' /JH email updates, which are always a good read, and I run a pair of 2.3 Compass tyres on my moustache bar'd roadified 80s MTB.
