Re: Gleneagles Gravel (bandwagon?)

A hotel buying a (small) fleet of quality bikes, with a lot of the building done locally, has to be better than a clusterfeck of cheap Taiwanese bike-shaped things that get replaced every couple of years? Stu Allan is more adventurous than most on here (certainly me), so I'm sure it's a good thing -...

Re: Touring up North

That was a great Sunday breakfast, wistful 'Wish I was there' read. I've three times passed the Dam at the top of Glen Cassley and noted the near perfect bivvy spot just below it. - the exact spot I camped in 2015 (at least it was after I'd given up the slight shelter and concrete floor at the build...

So to get a record, do at least two need to break it - i.e. does it finish on e it's down to 1 runner, or can they keep going?

Re: Saddle for all day comfort

I always used to use SDG like that. Now use Ergon on MTB and Pro Turnix on drop bar bikes. Both an improvement on the SDGs (which I thought were great - if creaky). Also have a Brooks Cambium which was instantly comfortable.

@RIP - I suspect they'll only work on very upright bikes.

Re: Van Tarp Poles Needed

There's a Van conversion firm called Vanking, which I can't help but assume is Dutch/German every time I see it.

Talking of Poles, we had to release our Polish cleaner - was taking hours over the hoovering. Turns out he was a Slovak.......

Loads of drugs cheats going insanely fast ? Prefer to think it's young, really well prepared and coached athletes at the top of their game, breaking away from those having a bad week, or not as well prepared. Yesterday was great too. Glad Cav survived. Young lad from the Lakes going well too - Mark...

I looked for quite a while (S&S way too expensive for me) and had a couple of non-delivered Chinese orders.
Got these the other day, which seem ideal - https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15904936/h ... m-15904936

Re: Lachlan Bike Packing the Tour De France

This has given me an idea. As I didn't get a place on BB200, I'm going to take the route, divide into 4 or 5 stages, and ride them fully supported, with soigneurs, spare everything and snogs on the podium each day. Who'll sponsor me? In real news, today's race was the 'sum of awe'. Like watching the...

Great stuff. Not been there for too long. Last time I bivvied there (for climbing) a tiny beetle thing crawled into my ear - sounds like brawling grizzlies in there when it woke me up. Re: Lake District hike suggestions please

Not a high summit but a beautiful spot - what about Haystacks? There are various tarns near the top and the undulating ground means you should be able to get a sheltered spot. This is half an hour's walk from the Brandreth site I mentioned, and where daughter and I walked once we'd pitched the tent...

Re: Lake District hike suggestions please

Brandreth/Grey Knott's, accessed from the top of Honister pass. You start at 350m and can start by walking up the mine access track (bridleway running west from Honister YHA). Where that levels out take the footpath heading south towards Brandreth. If you look at the OS map, west of Brandreth summit...
