Northwind's suggestion is a good one. If you'd prefer out of the village, there's the 'old road' near Ashes Lane

Re: Missing the point?
It's a matter of perception I guess - going what seems like a long way into a forest (especially a Welsh one of 😉) will be an adventure for some. Lots of riders fing events like Dirty Reiver a big adventure. I guess pushing yourself to do something bigger than before has an element of uncertainty, a...

Re: West highland 550
Looks rather good. Have cycled most of it but never the lot together so might need to find a few spare days. If anyone is heading round it I’m not far outside Lochgilphead should you need any help or anything. Well I'm pleased Phil's latest route goes nearer Moine Mhor, as I'm keen to visit. I'll k...

Re: West highland 550
I have 4 days in early May, so planning to 'enthusiastically tour' the Western portion from Fort William to Tarbet. I only really know the bit around Dunoon, from the Dirt Dash, and some very midgey camping on Ardnamurchan, so keen to explore. Though if the weather looks great, I'm going hill walki...

Pah - what you need is a Chinese century egg or black egg. Up to 1,000 years old. Crisps wouldn't last half as long..........

Fair enough, but just thought I'd add some balance. I've met Mark and Chipps and they were at neither end of the knobhead>>legend continuum.Dave Barter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 6:07 pm I’ve had personal experience of the owners. Best left at that

insult of having to sub at STW  sorry) I've had a sub at STW for years. It's the best of the magazines and a really useful forum - good folk there, and associated with them, too. They try to do things right in a really challenging niche. There are some plonkers on the forum, multiplied due t...

Re: North York Moors 300
Most of it is ideally suited to a gravel bike, but there are some long sections that will be uncomfortable. If you're happy to ride around the Peak on the gravel bike, you'll be fine. I'll be on a hardtail I think, after rigid last year.

He's not thinking two days, just finishing with NYM300 finishers. I'm considering parking Thirsk, Thursday morning train to Skipton ( a few to get there before 9am) and try for 3 nights. A few things have to align though. If anyone else were considering it and willing to drive Thirsk to Skipton, I'l...

Re: GB Duro Entries open
I imagine that the organisers liability insurance is demanding that riders have personal insurance. I know that in the past we've had to see proof that any supplier we use for events has there own cover to a certain £amount. British Cycling membership gives liability insurance (£24/year from memory)...

And its £125 plus tracker hire and registration what exactly are you getting, in a self supported ITT, that warrants that? From the site: The £125 entry fee includes: • GPX of the GBDIVIDE route [Cape Wrath variant] • A shared experience as part of a special community of riders • Unlimited access t...
