Re: Britain's toughest race
The 3PCX is, for the distance, pigging hard I'd say. You can't really back off can you? - everything on it feels a bit of a struggle. Is the HT550 really a race? More an individual challenge - clearly harder in the effort required, but not that intense (mostly). 2011 Kielder 100 was a long period of...

Re: 2016 Highland Trail route.
If asking about the sunday of the event, stuff will be open in Fort Augustus, and Contin stores. There are a couple of cafes and a hotel between them. Plus Oykel Bridge Hotel for dinner?

This looks like a shot of the barn - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4123962 That's very much a working barn - obviously in use for wood cutting last year. I stopped there for a brew and to warm up after a morning crossing of the Northern Loop. peat hags........in the dark....... Shiver me timbers...

Re: Tim Woodcock C2C route - late summer group start??
It was done in under 24hrs last year ( ), so you could go light to make the hike a bike easier..............? It's on my to do list for this year, and I'm in NW Lakes so could collect 3 or 4 from Penrith and get to St Bees for early next morning. Realistically June/July for me, though Aug BH...

I reccied the 180odd miles back from Achnashellach to Tyndrum in the summer at the end of our summer holiday. Left Ach 0830 Sat am got to Tyndrum around 2.30 Sun with about 7hrs rough sleep stop in a garage 12 miles north of Ft William. There is still plenty of tough epic stuff: into Camban and out...

HHmmm the Lochinver Pie shop......... I too bought a second pie (they're more like pasties really), to eat for breakfast. I then found a B+B, so ate it in a hot bath, with beer from the Spar next door. Should probably have stumbled on towards Ledmore Junction...........or not. That pie shop does sav...

Not much etiquette needed in bothies - especially the glorified cow shed that is Carnmore. Camp anywhere away from enclosed land - windy is good to avoid the midges haven't even looked at the Ullapool section of the route yet. You've spotted the need to do this though haven't you? http://1.bp.blogsp...

Re: 2016 Highland Trail route.
Post Offices are often a service provided by 'convenience stores' in rural areas. The Wolftrax cafe at Laggan will provide food for late afternoon. They track racers and stay open. Contin stores are the best bet for Sunday, then Oykel Bridge Hotel. The hotel will make up take away sandwiches and stu...

I'd work on 6 or 7 sleeps Marshal at that kind of pace if not familiar with the Highlands. Evening eats or overnights at:
Fort Augustus
Oykel Bridge
Kylesku/Lochinver
Ullapool
Strathcarron/Dornie
Fort William
Experience is from last years route though...

Re: 2016 Highland Trail route.
Marshal, carry a stove and food. Spirits are broken by failing to get food from a cafe/shop that you were relying on. Being able to stop, shelter and brew up saved me twice on HT550 2015.
