Re: Slovenia / Croatia intel
Thread resuscitation.......... anyone any ideas for a hotel/hostel in Ljubljana that would store bike boxes? Or bike shops that could provide replacements? Thinking of going in September.

The pace/endurance of the lead riders is so impressive, and the stand out for me is Kerry McP. Folk talk about the importance of saving 100g here and there on gear, but the weight of her bike and kit, as a proportion of her body weight, must put her at a significant disadvantage #gokerry

Re: Brakes; mechanical or hydraulic?
I've had cable dics on an MTB for a couple of years, having been exclusively hydro. They're fine, but on a couple of occasions have faded on long steep descents, once causing me to deliberately steer into bracken coming down Honister. Could be a pad issue? When I get around to it the old (now servic...

Re: HT550 - 2024
Imight be wrong but I don't think the Drumbeg stores did the dot watching, open early/late until 2016 or 2017 but definitely a comfort if you aren't quite going to get there by the usual closing time. Yeah I know it wasn't the case in early days, so is a bonus now. What's the welcome like at OBH no...

Thanks all, some good options there. I like to get to places by train but would be difficult to plan this as really not sure how long it will take me to complete Lakeland 200. Two days is optimistic, three more realistic. I'm not far off the route west of Keswick if anything goes pear-shaped and yo...

2017 Neil Beltchenko - 3d10h22 an 8% improvement I think that was the first year where the leaders didn't stop on the first night. I remember Chris Hope hinting before hand that he was going to ride for 36 hours, as he'd done it on numerous adventure races. In 2015 the chat was about getting far en...

Did I miss something? Is a massive top tube bag on the mandatory kit list? My tool for drilling myself a bit hole from which to extract myself from will look a bit like this: https://i.ibb.co/3Rvj58z/2024-02-17-08-44-48.jpg that bike and rain look familiar. I suspect there'll be a fair few 'beaten up' feeling riders by the finish - but narrow tyres are faster, right?

I had a few days out on/around this route last week. Parked Garelochead (station car park - free) and got the 0645 to Fort William, picking up Phil's route there. Northwind's suggestion is a good one. If you'd prefer out of the village, there's the 'old road' near Ashes Lane

Re: Missing the point?
It's a matter of perception I guess - going what seems like a long way into a forest (especially a Welsh one of 😉) will be an adventure for some. Lots of riders fing events like Dirty Reiver a big adventure. I guess pushing yourself to do something bigger than before has an element of uncertainty, a...

Looks rather good. Have cycled most of it but never the lot together so might need to find a few spare days. If anyone is heading round it I’m not far outside Lochgilphead should you need any help or anything. Well I'm pleased Phil's latest route goes nearer Moine Mhor, as I'm keen to visit. I'll k...

I have 4 days in early May, so planning to 'enthusiastically tour' the Western portion from Fort William to Tarbet. I only really know the bit around Dunoon, from the Dirt Dash, and some very midgey camping on Ardnamurchan, so keen to explore. Though if the weather looks great, I'm going hill walki...

Pah - what you need is a Chinese century egg or black egg. Up to 1,000 years old. Crisps wouldn't last half as long..........

insult of having to sub at STW  sorry) I've had a sub at STW for years. It's the best of the magazines and a really useful forum - good folk there, and associated with them, too.
