Re: Jennride 2024 25/26/27th May

There are plenty of other events starting on this Bank holiday weekend. To my knowledge we have Headstock 500/200, Yorkshire Divide, HT550 and Dorset Dirt Dash. Any others?

This weekend we had the first completion by a woman. Sally Ozanne in a very impressive time of 22 hours 50 minutes. She is the ninth person to complete it in under 24hrs.

Re: HT550 over 7 riding days

If you start in Tyndrum but need to cut your ride short there’s a way back that you may not have thought of. On a recce trip last August I took the train from Strathcarron to Kyle of Lochalsh, you could also catch this train at Achnashellach or even Garve near Contin. From there I rode over the brid...

Re: HT550 2020 route GPX?

The track “improvements” by Loch a Bhraoin sound good. As long as they are not doing it during HT week we should be fine. The short section of the GGW just before Gairlochy was missed out on purpose. It’s parallel and very close to the road so easy to miss on the GPX track. Also it spits you out at ...

Re: HT550 2020 route GPX?

The one definite change to the 2020 route that I sent to the group starters is that after Ullapool it will take the usual turn for Croftown and use estate tracks to get to the start of the new section along the Auchindrean Path by the river. This avoids about 4km on the main road. The route into Fis...

Nobody is "in" until they have made the £50 donation to the John Muir Trust and forwarded the receipt to me.
I'm pleased to say this new initiative seems to have been very well received so far.
I would never give a 14 year old a solo place on the group start!

Re: Highland Trail 2019

With this year's group start just a month away I thought here would be a good place to organize ride sharing to Tyndrum.
I'll be driving up from the Lakes on Thursday morning, passing Glasgow airport around 10 am if anyone is arriving there that morning or staying at an airport hotel.

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

There is almost certainly no problem with Trackleaders. The issue has been user error our end, apologies for that. Michelle is now back on the map and heading down Glen Affric. She will be allowed to finished her ride, there is no 8 day cut off for group start riders. When she's done I will be calli...

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

David reported the Fisherfield river as being knee deep. The previous week a guy touring the route said it was about three feet deep but no problem at all to cross. I think there are other rivers that could be more dangerous than this one. I've had difficulty getting across the Allt Phocaichain abov...

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

Last May at those steps on the WHW there was a new easier route around to the right which I took the liberty of taking so I could update the route. Until now I had forgotten about it so thanks for the reminder. You can save some energy and swearing here for the bonus hill I've added before Bridge of...

Very entertaining! I saw Andy a few weeks ago, I wonder why he never mentioned this? This wasn't the first attempt I'm afraid. A chap had a go back in December and got to Laggan Wolftrax so just a bit further than you two. Since this seems to be a thing, what definition of winter shall we go with, D...

Re: Training for the CTR

I spent two full weeks in Colorado before the start. There is no shortage fantastic riding. I started in Salida where there is a great trail system just on the edge of town and also a shuttle up to Monarch Pass at 3500m from where you can ride the undulating Monarch Crest Trail followed by the mostl...

Re: Training for the CTR

Jenny did the AZTR last year where you need to carry your dismantled bike across the Grand Canyon. There is nothing like that on CTR, you can leave the wheels on and just push it (most of the time!). I'd say the trails on the CTR are generally easier than HT550. I remember loads of flowing singletra...

Re: A-Cross the 5, an unsupported bikepacking adventure

Wow! The best 100 Euros I ever spent. Put this on your bucket list. Very tough, up there with HT550. Loads of singletrack, not much tarmac, lots of hills and stunning scenery. Book early for next year's edition. It will sell out fast. Best of all 1200km with less than 10 gates!

I did it on a geared HT in 2012. Not sure why rigid SS could ever be a better option!
Geared FS next time. Would only go when it is Denver-Durango.

Re: Colorado Trail Race

That route on a rigid bike is hardcore. As if singlespeed didn't make it hard enough already! The weather has been very wet so his light weight set up must be at the limit, he probably has no option other than to keep riding/pushing.
Anyone know why Gunther has bailed?

A-Cross the Five, ride share to Antwerp.

There are seven of us Brits riding A-Cross the Five from Antwerp in August. Anyone on here? I will be driving out on the Friday night/Saturday (19th) morning and coming back on the bank holiday Monday (28th). I can take two other riders, would anybody like a lift?

I got up early to see them at the finish. I even gave Tom a hug for you! They crossed the line at about 2.10, waaaay past his bedtime! Amazing achievement. The youngest rider record will stand forever!
There are now two dirty bikes here at the campground amongst all the clean ones.

If a rider isn't on the Trackleaders HT page now they have had to drop out. 52 should be lining up tomorrow morning and a few ITTers are leaving today and Sunday.

Re: Tyndrum to Ben Alder - Snow?

From the WHW to Loch Lyon there are several river crossings which could be quite deep. Howard reported crotch level water the week before the group start last year. This could be a real problem for Tom. Not the best time of year to be soaking wet from so early on in the day.
