Re: GCN - You’ll never see the world in the same way again

Do dictators get nominated I wonder? . As mentioned some while ago my entirely reasonable plan for town roads is a blanket 10mph limit, no signs or lines or markings at all, no kerbs, no street furniture, nobody has 'priority' anywhere, and there's only one rule to remember: if there's a con...

Re: GCN - You’ll never see the world in the same way again

Yep - remember That Woman's "great car economy"... People never see the irony of sitting in a traffic jam whilst complaining about traffic jams holding them up.... our town's gridlocked on Saturday mornings but none of the drivers seem capable of thinking outside the box... their metal box...

Although I read somewhere else that conversely points of light may attract moths etc for the bats to feed on.

They only seem to sing and play two or possibly three notes; is that on purpose do you think? It's certainly very economical  .

Re: Woods Rat Run - one goes slightly carefree in Dorset

Yep - that was not boring at all! Some top route info, cafes, anecdotes, happenings, etc. Compliments on taking the trouble to write it up. There really is some nice riding around there isn't there, all those chalky tracks. Separate buckets for washing and rinsing? Luxury! Handcocks Bottom.... Monk'...

Now on “How they broke Britain” by James O’Brian which is just making me angry Was going to get hold of a copy of it but might not now as don't like being angry. Already got large telly repair bill as a result of throwing heavy objects at it. You are welcome to have mine when finished. Ah thanks Da...

How about an urban Black Country pubcrawl-Brompacking escapade kipping in a disused factory or something. Your old manor. Or is that a bit too edgy  . Pubcrawl you say .... If Pickers is OK widening out into a team effort we'll get our people to fax your people nearer the time.... Sept any g...

Well I think you've been very lucky there Legs me old sparrow. Phil must be in a good mood or summat. I think it only got through because #4 says "bike must be involved" not "riding a bike must be involved". Bit of tightening up of the rules needed here I reckon. Tch, honestly. A...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Urban bivvies are great, though who's to say you can't have slugs and neds? Aye can't have too much of a good thing! Re payments, you've got me thinking now (uh-oh). Am very keen on pub-BaMs and have done a few in the past - in fact quite a large proportion of my BaMs have been pub-based: in pub ga...

Postscript: middle of nowhere at the top of Beddgelert Forest and phone rings. One of the few places I'd had a signal. Normally on japes I never use it but it's Mrs P. Unusual. Go on then. Bit of a flap, chap left vague message on her phone... "husband... cafe.. something or other". No cal...

"Camping Management Zones". Blimey. Yes, paid for, so surely infringing our Rule #5? I reckon a "camping zone" is equivalent to a "camping site". How do they delineate the exact perimeters of the zones? You might be just outside one. And how does simply paying for a per...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Mmm, one definitely doffs one's cap, J. Difficult to know whether to keep schtum, shove the earplugs in, stay low and ride it out. Can't beat a satisfying urban bivvy, but I think I'd've found that a mildly unnerving situation so compliments to you for handling it. Impressive stuff.

Then you went for a sauna afterwards to recover and they started flailing you with birch twigs.

As we probably summarised last time, BP isn't really about actively seeking out S&M, it's surviving it and extracting what enjoyment you can if you encounter it.

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?

Rise above it, maintain your sense of cheerful superiority. You've already won without playing their silly games - fitter, healthier, faster in traffic, richer not wasting money on motors/fuel/insurance/tax/repairs/carwashes, cleaner/greener, more freedom, easy to park, the list goes on... Of course...
