I promise you whichever group you choose you'll probably dislike us for a bit of it, you'll be our best mates for some bits, you'll be ambivulous towards us for the other bits. At the end of the weekend you'll be happy to have done some great riding in Wales and may even want to come back again. Go...

I have to say this thread reminds me very strongly of Doolittle's conversation with Bomb #20 in "Dark Star" (*) .

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?

Not sure that argument stacks up camping...... precise....... Ah well, but is "camping" a precise term? In our frame of reference I don't think it is. Have a look at Bivvy a Month to see the myriad ways we do "Bearbones Bikepacking". If (elitism alert) we're not doing "bike...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?

In all of these variations bikes are involved and packing (and presumably unpacking) is involved. When people first started travelling on bikes and stopping overnight, if they had called it 'bikepacking' - because it involved bikes and [un]packing as above - and the term 'cycle touring' had never be...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?

bikepacking is similar to wave theory. Its state depends on the observer Best not to observe it because the whole thing would collapse into a specific state and then we'd understand exactly what it is  . I'd rather not know. In fact there would be a definite point, which rather spoils the who...

As well as Karl and Cat's expert guiding, Lonely Hearters and Lost Souls also have the 'Ride With Reg' LHC option  . Having run some LHC's a few years ago I felt it's time to 'give something back' again. I'm particularly keen to encourage WRT first-timers and non-Boners but all welcome if the...

Entirely coincidentally, I've just bought some E-Clips. Quite impressed. They automatically self-disengage when they detect a crash occurring so I can dismount easily. Whatever will they E- next I wonder.

... but just where does one obtain a pair of beavers from? Salt Lake City....although it has been known that one can acquire more than a pair, if required, to get the job done. Greetz S. Interesting. So I searched for "Mormon beavers". That was quite an eye-opener  . I tried again:...

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles

Next trip will be 3 days, then 4-6, and then hopefully, Iceland Divide. Oh, as Alpinum will no doubt be along to elaborate, Iceland would be a different kettle of (fermented) fish. You'd think with all that melted glacier water you'd have no problem, but the times I went (decades ago now) I was adv...

So is it common for churches and graveyards to have taps to refill? good to know Very common. Village halls another good one in my experience. Maybe turned off in winter though. There was a suggestion on Here a while ago that we all chipped in to create a map of them. I prefer the fun of finding th...

Re: Cranktank 3 vs cages on fork + smartwater bottles

Firstly, hope you enjoyed your trip  I've never carried more than 500ml and a filter. 3 litres of water would far and away be the single heaviest thing you carried. Every time you filter and fill your 500ml bottle, drink it straightaway then filter another 500ml to take with you. My 500ml bot...

Re: packable fleece?

Maybe I misread the product description in a review which said it had "zero" windproofness and all heat would be whipped away in a wind. 20mph on a bike is pretty windy. I'm just rebelling against something that doesn't sound perfect for £100 and needs a top layer (negating the weight savi...
