Re: HT550 2021

I get loads of odd aches and pains just before a big event, the body's way of telling you not to go bother as it knows what's coming next?

They all disappear once I get started. Hopefully you'll be fixed up in no time.

Wow! How long does that take to do? All the exhausts I've made have either been wrapped on hidden underneath the vehicle, which is lucky as I'd never have the patience (or skill) to do that.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Just in ASDA doing the shopping, no chocolate biscuit stout  also, whilst in the beer aisle a family where looking at the spirits, having difficulty choosing. Their friend walks up and says 'this is what he should get' pointing to the shelf. The mum replies, 'he's not having a big bottle of abs...

A Lezyne Pocket Drive HV - I've never had an issue with the valve unscrewing thing. Slightly more compact than my existing Ally Drive pump. A Big Agnes synthetic sleeping bag half liner, eBay bargain. I plan to use it over my summer bag or quilt as an extra layer when the forecast is colder than I'd...

I saw recently that wardens and keepers are out at night on quad-bikes in the Peaks and moving wild campers on from popular spots.

Every (irresponsible) action has a consequence even if not apparent at the time.

Also, with the eTrex the batteries last hours after the low-battery warning. I only change mine when they are so flat it shuts off.

Re: I give up.

Looking at there photos they were on ebikes too, ebikes to bike pack??? Why would them being on ebiker be an issue? As Johnny says above "within your battery range then why not?" I guess it's not a problem in that case. Perhaps if they weren't on ebikes they wouldn't have the energy/capacity to bri...

Re: HT550 2021

Longer than that surely? Two or three days at least, even non lithium ones lasted me two 12 hour ish days Two 12 hour days isn't the same as lasting 24 hours though as they recover slightly when off? My rechargeable ones will last just about 30 hours non-stop use, depending on the backlight setting...

Re: HT550 2021

This was discussed at length in 2019 by all of us waiting around in Tyndrum. My personal theory is that people who know they’re not fast (myself included) will pack enough stuff to be comfortable because they know they’ll be out there a while. The racers at the front are either racing or scratching...

Ah, I misread that as 1 minute intervals.

How was the river crossing when you turned off the old route to go along the south side of the Loch? It looked like it had potential to get quite wide when I rode the LTL, but it was getting dark when I was there and they always look worse in the dark.

Re: It seemed as if it would be oh so simple.

I saw a contraption that was a clear plastic bucket with an airtight lid and it had 2 ports in the top and a very fine filter over one inside. Connect the vacuum to this port and a length of flexible hose to the other. Vacuum on suck collects the down from the item into the bucket. Switch to blow an...

Looks good :-bd I originally bought the pied elephant with the idea of recycling the down into a quilt. I then looked at YouTube videos of people sealing themselves in their bathrooms with the door taped shut, to get the down out without getting it all over the house and had a change of mind

Re: ever wish you were strong enough to ride single speed ?

I'm lucky that my geographical location means that I can leave the same ratio on all the time here (34/18) but if I've got a big loaded ride locally I will usually change to 32/18 but that's only a couple of times a year. I also use this as an opportunity to clean the chainring/chain/cog in the part...

Re: Diving down the dynamo rabbit hole

My first SP lasted less than 500 miles. The warranty replacement, which was the newer improved version, had 4 years and 1000s of miles of on/off use. It's now got a just detectable bit of play in the bearings. No longer in regular use as that bike is no longer assembled.

He'd left it in the dry bag he had his kit (and himself) in last time. I planned to try a new location, a bit of woodland only 5 miles from home. For those not familiar with the Island there's a ridge of chalk download that runs east to west across the center, the only gap being at Newport where the...
