Re: Sept with Sean (and Andy, and also Reg, Verena, Hux and Ralph)
DAY 2 – SIDE OF A FIELD TO SOMEWHERE ON THE RIDGEWAY We were up early and after a quick coffee packed and away. Back on the canal which by now I had seen enough of. The vegetation and lack of width were particularly bad here. Unless some works are undertaken to these sections, they’ll be lost in the...

Re: Last Night's Bivvy
Nowt wrong with a non-BaM bivvy thread, good idea in fact. Although "Last Night's" rather imposes a fairly brisk time limit on the report  . Getting the reports in within that time limit might be an issue, but when have we worried about rules  https://live.staticflickr.com/655...

Re: Sept with Sean (and Andy, and also Reg, Verena, Hux and Ralph)
Shaf, we were heading south, and I'm back home now, but that's for the offer. As for the injectors, the AA have a special van that does this, but it's not just VW's, it appears all makes of modern high pressure electronically controlled direct injection diesel engine are blessed with injector proble...

Re: Sept with Sean (and Andy, and also Reg, Verena, Hux and Ralph)
If I'm honest I've not much of an idea which canals we were on, they are quite 'samey' I'm relying on Strava to work it out. When I get to the final installment I'll put a map up but I'll save that to keep the excitement for now  although the list of extras should give away some of the p...

Sept with Sean (and Andy, and also Reg, Verena, Hux and Ralph)
During lockdown Mike had planned this route but not had a chance to ride it. As he had a block of leave in September he asked me if I’d like to ride it with him, the title is the name of the GPX he sent me, not including the list of extras  Andy (Chickenlegs) was also available to join us for ...

Re: Rechargable Lithium Batteries?
I've got a Youshiko YC4000 which was recommended, maybe even on here all those years ago.
As well as charge it will do clever stuff like discharge before charging, variable charging current and test them. Charges 4 x AA or 4 x AAA or a mix as each battery has separate charging control.

Make sure it's the Pro which are 2500 mAh, the normal are only 2000 as far as I can see.

Re: Rechargable Lithium Batteries?
Does it have to be lithium? I use Panasonic Eneloop Pro AA 2500mAh Ni-MH. They are technically only 1.2V but this has bever caused an issue. I bought mine in 2017 and they gave 30 hrs use in an eTrex. On a trip earlier this month I changed the second set out at 60 hrs total time so they haven't degr...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
But I feel somewhat guilty, even ashamed. Is this bikepacking? Have I ripped the very soul from this noble and wondrous art. I often feel the same, mine are also often predicable. But it's BIVI a month and that's the important bit. There are over 2000 members here but only a handful committed to th...

Can't break the record if there's a film crew following him? Isn't there a rule specifically about this? I seem to recall he did the same on the Colorado Trail. I see he mentions he doesn't think it helps if you have a crew, and it night not make a difference when all is gong well, but they are a sa...

What's the budget? I replaced my Garmin with a Coros Pace 2, very impressed, as well as for running I wear it all the time as a smart(ish) watch - notifications of texts, calls etc, fitness tracker and I also use it on the bike. Really good battery life as well.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Usual school-night bivi. Decided to ride further as the evenings are so nice, not too far or I'd be off the other side of the Island and into the sea. Kept to the south-ish side but my destination was on the north coast. On the Island unless you go through Newport all trips going south>north or vice...

The one that popped the seal between the baffles was replaced by exped - but the replacement has done the same. I don't blow them up hard so I'm not sure what has happened there. My Neoair Unberlite did this as well, replaced under warranty and the new one did exactly the same second use. It also h...

This ^ I have changed my attitude to cheap imports, I'm just not happy with the moral position. I saw feature about a factory where a worker has to reach in and remove an item in time with the process whilst the machine is still moving, almost weekly someone is killed or loses both arms. The locals ...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
I have 3 single speed bikes. Their drivetrain may need less attention, but they're not maintenance free. They're maintenance free if you don't maintain them*, see my winter comutter for example  The trade off is when I do some maintenance it's usually replacing all of it. Does occasionally oil...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
It seems pointless to me, I always say if you're going to have gears - have lots.
If you want, reliable, maintenance free (but never in the right gear ) go singlespeed. Once you add the complexity of changeable gears then have enough to make it worthwhile.

Are you a day early, surely this a Cheery Friday post?
Wouldn't anyone who wanted the contents of the dry bag just cut it open If they're a real bikepacker they'll have an axe attached to the gravel bike they can use to get into it

The other version describe themselves as The Nearly Wild Camping Club is ...
