Re: BB200 planning

Not even when examined in conjunction with the weather forecast the week before? Now you may have a point, however I think the 5 day forecast probably accounts for some of those who simply don't turn up rather than those who actually bow out beforehand. I'll keep an eye out this year  Just ch...

How is the wait list going? Wondering when to make plans or alternate plans.

Thanks

Re: BB200 entry

When I see these pictures I get worried about my Schmidt dynamo and Rohloff Hub gear. Should I be?

Re: BB200 entry

Thanks.

I think the pause, eat and think would have been a good option. The ford was I guess, 20m wide and I wasn't very eager to risk my feet and ankles bare foot. But maybe there was an easier place just up or downstream.

Re: BB200 entry

What works best for crossing fords that are too wide/deep/rocky to cycle across? In my one BB200 a large crossing changed my mental strength and led to retirement. I crossed with my cycling Shimano boots on over sealskinz socks but it was too deep and I got fully wet feet. Do you just get wet feet a...

70 miles on 70 occasions is actually quite different to 102km on 102 occasions :-)

My metric one is 75.

You are correct.

It is length only and obviously longer rides are easier on road and with sympathetic terrain.

Re: Eddington

I'm on 58 with just 2 rides to make it 60. Hoping to achieve that by end of the year.

I'm also enjoying the Explorer scores. So far:
5691 tiles, average of 3.161 mi per tile
Max square 13x13

Hoping to get that to a 15x15 square in the next few days (I think just one more tile visit will do it).

Re: BB200 - GPS Failures?

I used my Garmin Edge 1000 because that is what I have :-) It worked with no problems. I had the backlight pretty much at minimum and only a heart rate sensor to maximise the battery life. I used an Anker external battery to charge it. I used the standard Garmin mount on the "wrong" side o...

Thought I would start a separate thread for thanks. This was my first BB200 (in a year which included my first Winter Event and first WRT). Stu and Dee: Brilliant organisation and great hospitality. Many many thanks for all your hard work. Stu. What an vaguely exciting route! I knew it was always go...

Re: Dynamo Hub options

BTW in the future I'd look at the LUMOTEC IQ2 LUXOS U light as that has a cache battery and USB charger built in.

See a long way down this page for details http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/b&m-hl.asp

Note you won't be able to charge anything much at all while using the lights.

Re: Dynamo Hub options

Did you run any cache battery when using the plug? I've read the fluctuation in speeds can bust your device whether it Garmin or iPhone etc. I generally use it to charge an Anker battery which I later use to charge devices. To achieve on the go charging I can just have 2 smaller Anker batteries use...

Re: BB200 Route Details

Arrived at the Aleppo Merchant Inn 8 minutes before the official deadline this evening. Breakfast isn't until 7.30am so my start won't be quite as early as planned. This bedroom seems to be the only room without heating, presumably as an acclimatisation technique :-) Glad I packed an extra layer.

How do people manage with to little stuff? I guess knowing I'm going to get some sleep I have higher expectations of comfort. Re: Dynamo Hub options

I have 2 Schmidt dynamos. On my Bullitt cargobike it will be 5 years old this winter. Has never had a problem at all. On my Shand Stoater it is 3 years old. Had one free service and done about 9,000 miles. I'll be using my Shand for the BB200 as I did for the Ford Fiesta and WRT. Only using it to po...

Pete, Done my test packing and I have a spare stem cell complete with the 2 velcro straps. Will bring it and get it to the start. I'm staying at the Aleppo Merchant Inn, Carno and will be at the start after the earliest breakfast I can get. Look for a Blue Berlingo Multispace an orange Shand Stoater...

In bike hike

a) Load the route
b) Click "Options"
c) Click "Resample Elevation Data"

Works for me.

If tomorrow I find it is spare then I guess I can always leave it at the start for you (I'm hoping to get off by 8.05 as I need every minute before the cut off).

Probably. I'll know after I have done a trial pack on my day off tomorrow. I'm hoping to manage with either 1 or no stem cell.
