Re: Highland Trail 2015
Thanks for sharing. Kit - get good kit but more importantly get the nous to use it. One thing I will say is that I had minimal ankle or foot probs which I think is partly down to good boots (Shimano goretex thingies) and sealskin socks which meant my feet were dry until day 5 and only a bit damp the...

Re: Exped Synmat UL 5...any users/experience?
Just to say that my Symat failed. Used about 15 times including Ford Fiesta and WRT (plus 2.5 weeks getting to WRT). The middle 2 tubes have joined into one. exped-fail.jpg I have sent it back to OutdoorGB but they have to send it back to somewhere else and they will take 7 days. Problem as I leave ...

A new kickstarter project
I first thought of this during the Ford Fiesta in January but this weekends WRT has confirmed the need for a kickstarter.com project. The idea is to solve the Welsh gate problem. - The ones so broken you have to park your bike to lift the gate out of the way. - The ones where your befuddled brain ta...

Re: Great weekend! Thanks :-)
Another great WRT. Weather much better than expected. Thanks again to Stu and Dee. Great to meet everyone at Nants Rhys on Saturday night. Kev, Chris etc, nice to put faces to the names. Some unexpected twists this year made it particularly memorable and more thanks are due. Special thanks to Paul ...

Got to Bala
After a good WRT weekend (with many thanks to Stu & Dee and all the friendly people) I set off for Bala. Thanks to all the warnings and laughter I was unsurprised when I got to the bottom of Bwlch y Groes. In the end I made it up with just one walk of about 400 steps (about 3/4 of the steel barr...

Re: Leicester to London route advice
Dave, thanks just saw your Strava comment. Yeah, wasn't sure if you would get notified about it. I spent 3 years in Northampton at Uni and so am in no rush to ever return and so a detour via anywhere sounds like a good idea. We lived in Raunds (other side of wellingborough) for 5 years with need to...

Re: Leicester to London route advice
Looking a bit on screen I think I'd use https://www.strava.com/activities/23954834 but from Cosby use a route more like http://www.strava.com/routes/2138147 for the first section (Northampton is not very nice). Milton Keynes is confusing. When you reach a junction using the cycle tracks it is not al...

Re: Leicester to London route advice
Here are a couple of Strava rides I've done between Leicester and London:
https://www.strava.com/activities/23954834
https://www.strava.com/activities/6499363
One used the Brampton Valley trail from Market harborough (very pleasant). Both avoided main roads as much as possible. Perfectly rideable.

Re: WRT Grid Refs ... are out.
Thanks for the succinct response Stu
I'd like to enter for a prize for the greatest bike weight loss from arrival at the start to departure on the WRT (will be dropping off 4 heavy panniers, two racks). Would probably break the famed scales of truth on arrival ;-)

Re: WRT Grid Refs ... are out.
So is there a theme to the WRT grid references such as Fords were for the Winter Event?
Is there anything to see/write down or anything at the grid references? Especially thinking of some of the ones that seem to be just off the tracks.
Thanks Dave

I have a Schmidt Son Delux that is 4 years old on my Bullitt Cargobike never a single problem.
On my Shand I have a Schmidt Son 28. After 2 years of all year and all weather use it became rather notchy with some play Sent it back and got it fully repaired for free within 2 weeks.
Love them.

Re: Multiday Bikepacking Menus
I'm interested in this.
However, I'm cycling to WRT via Bristol and Cardiff. Leaving home on 17th April so will be needing to resupply multiple times. Means I'm going to be limited to what I can find locally - doubt that will include much in the way of fancy stuff ;-)

Why are gears running in a nice, clean, protected oil bath an inelegant solution? Especially compared to dragging a chain sideways out of alignment.ZeroDarkBivi wrote:as well as being an inelegant solution.

My Shand Stoater as used on the Ford Fiesta but with a bit more air in the WTB Nano tyres at the start. No choice because I'll have cycled to the WRT from Leicester via Bristol (Bespoked Bike show) and Cardiff (visiting family including cute grandson). Will be leaving front and rear racks/panniers w...

Re: WRT Entries now open.
How many is "full"? Around 120. Everything is goverened by parking really, if I can secure extra parking, everyone shares cars or parks somewhere else and rides to the start then numbers could increase. I'm about to enter and will be cycling to and from the event so no parking needed for ...

Re: Base weight
Surely external weight should be expressed as a percentage of total weight. Otherwise those of us needing larger sizes of clothing are put at yet another disadvantage ;-) Maybe there could be a Bikepacking handicap system. People with the same external weight as a percentage but with higher total we...
