Re: Why don't you buy bike magazines?

Magazine product reviews are little more than copy & paste press releases.
Everything I might want from a magazine is available for free on the internet.

Re: AK mytimug 400 or 650

Something doesn't add up here. "Stem Cell is the perfect place to store a MytiMug 650" Mytimug 650 external diameter = 103mm Stem Cell internal circumference (who measures bags by circumference?) = 307mm 307/pi = 97mm No wonder I'm having trouble cramming it in there with a 6mm interferenc...

Thanks for the Toolstation tip. That's about £3.40 a litre, so about the same as the GoOutdoors offer price.

Re: Meths?

Any opinions on this bio-ethanol on offer at Go Outdoors at the moment?
It's cheaper than methylated spirit from B&Q.

Velocity Dually with Maxxis Chronicle.
Sam did a deal with the Duallies in the original Kickstarter, so I guess they are going to be the most common choice.

Re: E-Bike Threat

Cube might not start fitting illegal 500w motors, but that doesn't mean no one else will offer the electric equivalent of a moped big bore kit. Unless riders are carrying spares or massive batteries they aren't going to be venturing far from the car park. Ten years ago you might have said that light...

Re: E-Bike Threat

One thing that everyone seems to have overlooked is inevitable improvements in technology. Compare the lights we are using now with what we had ten years ago, then think about how obsolete 250w and 15mph is going to look in ten years time. It may be OK saying an ebike is acceptable now because it's ...

Re: 29+ tyre pressures

I was running mine 20psi front and 22psi rear, simply because that was the pressure they seated at when I fitted them and I didn't get around to lowering them until today. I adjusted them a bit by feel on the way home today. I've just checked them with a gauge and they are 10f & 12r. I'll see ho...

Re: Lock

I know what you mean, it's a lot easier to hide a bike and bivi than a Land Rover, it's just that even in normal life, I've occasionally had other people say to me in the morning "Did you hear that thunderstorm/banging gate/barking dog/police sirens last night?", "Er...no." If I'...

Re: Lock

if you're worried about someone nicking your bike during the night ... you've pitched up in the wrong place. It would be nice if this was true, but bothies get vandalised and mountain rescue team vehicles get stolen from far more remote locations than where I go on my microadventures in Shropshire....

Re: Fat bike curious. What would you recommend

Get a 29+ single speed.
That way, not only will you spend most of your time in the wrong gear, you'll also be on the wrong bike.

Re: Lock

Thread resurrection, I'm surprised this doesn't get discussed more often. I've been using the old 'upturned bike as a tarp support' method of overnght security. Hopefully if someone takes the bike, the tarp falling on my face would wake me up. I want to use my hooped bivi though, which would mean le...

Lock for £1, although the delivery cost bumps it up to nearly a fiver, so only worth it if you're buying something else at the same time.

The Lezyne one comes with rubber covers to stop crap getting in
Glue these on or you will lose them. The replacements are about half the price of a pump.

Re: SP-PD8, Sinewave, Exposure, Garmin, "External power lost

Thanks both. Thinking about this a bit more and looking up the numbers, what you're saying sounds right. If the dynamo puts out 6v 3w, that's only about 0.5A. Whatever the Sinewave does, it can't create power, so it's not going be much more than 500mA at 5v. An Exposure charger is 1.5A output, a Gar...

Re: SP-PD8, Sinewave, Exposure, Garmin, "External power lost

Thanks Taylor, that should sort out the External Power Lost problem. It would have been nice to have been able to use what I have already got, but £8 and 82g is OK. The Garmin 800 lasts 12+ hours on a simple speed and distance display, but using the live scrolling map with the brightness turned up k...

Re: SP-PD8, Sinewave, Exposure, Garmin, "External power lost

Perhaps "switch" was the wrong word as I didn't mean a physical switch, although old fashioned car dynamos did have contacts in the regulator box that would switch in the dynamo once it reached charge speed. I meant that I want the Garmin and Exposure to draw their current from the Exposur...

SP-PD8, Sinewave, Exposure, Garmin, "External power lost"

I'm sure every possible question about dynamos etc. has already been asked several times, but I can't find the answer to this one. If I connect my SP-PD8 to my Exposure 6 pack via a Sinewave Revolution, it appears to be keeping it charged indefinitely. However, if I connect the Sinewave to my Garmin...

Re: Singular Rooster 29+ Kickstater

What's the ride like? how's that Rooster ride after waiting for it for so long? I'd make a terrible product reviewer, my ability to describe a bike's characteristics is pretty much limited to "I haven't crashed it yet, so it must handle OK". I've done about 65km on it so far, including a ...

I may be interested in this. If I come, I'll probably ride from home in the Wyre Forest, meet you somewhere to ride part of the route, then drop out to ride home. I'll have to check my shift rota to see if I'm available on Saturday morning and whether I need to be back by Monday morning. I can help ...

Re: Top tube bags - front and rear

I put self adhesive velcro tape on the frame and base of the bag. It doesn't stop it flopping over when empty, but it stops the whole thing rotating on the top tube.
