Re: With the onset of winter ...
Well below average riding wise. Never mind though. I think I'll winterize my krampus (going to return to rigid and fit as many mud giards as possible) and make an effort to get out and enjoy quieter trails. I was mudguarded up today. I think i'll just leave them on I always forget what a difference...

Re: Novatec hubs - any good?
Almost any hub that isn't clearly inhouse is either a rebranded novatec or bitex hubs. They'll be fine. They build to many different pricepoints so i can't tell you what to get but i'd trust thd reviews personally.

Renting might be an option but to be honest I can see the benefit for all general use so I think I can justify the expenditure!
So an SP hub and a revo looks like the way forward.
Cheers!

Re: Dynamo hubs and lights.
Are the SP bearings notorious? Probably jinxed it now, but I've put mine through some pretty harsh conditions (water, sand, snow, dust, approx 10,000 miles) and they seem ok. There are tough conditions then there is strathpuffer... Having said that other then removing all the anodising on a set of ...

Re: Dynamo hubs and lights.
Well thats just it I don't really know! Ideally I'd like to just "have constant light" not massively fussed by hows that achieved but i like the idea of my winter bike being good to go for any night ride (terrible at charging lights) I guess the main question is does the actual light have ...

My googling has been useless today. I'm having a second go at strathpuffer and am trying to decide lighting plan. Last time i had a mtb batterries on the bars and some led torches plus loads of batterries . This was okay but i was in a pair so i only needed a short period of capacity plus i went otb...

Re: Bivvying .... ever get unwanted guests?
Yep, this thread has convinced me that despite the weight saving that comes from the bivvy / tarp combo I shall always be using a tent. On the other hand I've woken up to two faint thumps on my chest and ovened my eyes to be greeted by two very inquisitive chaffinches staring back at me. I then spe...

Re: Bivvying .... ever get unwanted guests?
I had two owls once on a beach on North Uist. Bloody scary it was - and I'm not normally one to worry about these things. I don't know if it was that I was attracting insects or I was just pissing them off but they were flying over very, very low in the dark (like barely more than arms length away)...
