Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge

Funnily enough Dave, I was thinking earlier that I tend to only sleep out for three maybe four nights at a time on a trip, Highland Trail excepted, and I need to up my game. It was partly why I went for the GBduro as that would be 10 nights straight but for various reasons I'm not doing that now.......

Re: Off Topic - siezed, rusted, possibly double threaded, sheared bolt extraction advice!

Jon... This is what led me into thinking I've got a double thread going on. When I was (sensibly) extracting it slowly with the head intact and the breaker bar, I did screw back in a couple of times. Still no joy and the amount of torque required stayed the same. About 250 to 275nm I'd guess! I've ...

Re: Todays ride

A good ride around Loch Rannoch for me today. Alan Goldsmith of Highland Trail fame asked me to check out the track up to the knackered bridge in the forest to see if it was suitable for the route. So I figured on doing the Pitlochry sportive route with a minor variation up the track and back. Again...

Is it not more metal bits to break Simon?
I'm not getting stuff like that - looks a right faff to unstrap those bags - I'd just use a set of Ortleib front panniers on a normal rack

Hi Pete, yes it's still shut - location is NN 53371 54457 it's easy to avoid just stick to the road and miss the loop round Leagag. If you are heading north to south, climb up a lovely trail from the car park at Carrie - it goes up the north west side of the burn and rejoins the Gallabaich track jus...

Fitted new brakes to the Jones. A bit of a U turn for me as I'm back on Hopes after finally getting fed up of Shimano variable lever / will the brake work or won't it nonsense. They've done alright on the Jones at 7 years old I suppose.... Anyway my local-ish bike shop (singletracks in Kirkcaldy) is...

The last descent was a bit lumpy.... Oh yeah, forgot about that section down the washed out Boltby Bash enduro trail. I think I swore. My brain was about half a mile behind me so I was right into the really rough (aka gnarly) bit before I realised I needed to actually think about where I was going,...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

Just partaken of a pleasant luncheon. Chatted with my pal at the Council about how he's going to spend the £1m we managed to wangle for new cycleways and footpaths around the town, so that was nice. Based on the rates for HS2 I'd estimate that £1M will be enough to construct nearly 12m of new cycle...

I take it it's the lightweight stuff? Outdry Extreme, "external membrane combined with an inner layer of soft fabric"; sounds like the heavier version to me. That does look the same stuff as on the lightweight 'Titanium' version, currently available for £157. https://www.columbiasportswea...

Hmmm also. I see they do a hat as well. Thinking about it though, green isn't a bad colour for overtrousers and once they have got sprayed with gunge they will look OK.
